From 40 to 9

I have been considering buying a 9mm barrel and mags to use in my 40 svc. When I go to XDGUYS they have "semi" drop in barrels and that they are not conversion barrels. This is where I get confused. In looking at the parts list, the only difference is the barrel and the mags. Can anyone tell me if I can buy the barrel from XDGUYS and put it in my 40 without a problem?
Thanks in advance.

When I get my XD40, I think Im going to get a 9mm barrel and a few mags to play with at the range. Im sure the barrel will pay for itself when I can get 9mm rounds instead of 40s...unless I make up the price difference with a larger amount of 9mm ammo lol Have you seen the ported EFK firedragon?

Phil,
They had 2 pages of barrells, one was replacement, one was conversions. Wally is now $27.00 for 100 WWB .40, whereas 9mm is under $20.00. It would pay for itself over time. Plus, if my wife wants to shoot, the 9mm might not be as hard on her.

I have them in my SIG and Beretta. The ports do absolutely nothing firing 9mm, they just look cool.

EFK makes good barrels.

FYI, the XD may not relaibly extract 9mm in a .40 slide. The extractor is basically fixed position so it can't pivot over to make up for the smaller diameter of the 9mm rim. Less extractor tension means unreliable extraction.

Using the 9mm conversion in my TAC 40, I got decent cycling using new ammo (maybe one or two FTE's in a hundred). With reload ammo, it extracts a lot worse because the caes fit is tighter.

Just saying heads up, with a fixed extractor you may not have 100% reliability.

XDGuys' site does not list a conversion barrel for the 3" XDSC to go from .40 to 9mm. I thought that the EFK's site did, but their site is being moved so I can't verify.

Does anyone know if it is possible to convert a .40 XDSC to a 9mm?

Many thanks!
