Lightbulb FINALLY! How to search XDTalk effectively - sticky?

Okay, I have been getting really frustrated with the 'problematic' search function on this site - it really is brain dead - which means that the same questions get asked over and over again.

I can't believe it's taken me so long to figure out a better way to search, but it's really very simple and very effective.

1. Download and install Google toolbar.

2. Have XDTalk (or any other site you want to search) in the active window

3. Enter your search terms in the Google toolbar search window

4. Click the little arrow next to the G in the toolbar search window

5. Select 'Current Site'

6. Click Go

A Google results page will be displayed -arranged with typical Google relevancy with ALL the search items you entered taken into account with each individual post shown - as compared to the board search which makes you drop down through each thread to find the results.

Can we make this a sticky?

BTW, if you like this technique, why not post a response here so the thread is kept high on the page and more members get a chance to see it.

Without using the Google toolbar, you can also just go to Google and enter...

"site : xdtalk.com ________"

(Where _______ is your search terms.)
(Also, get rid of the spaces around the colon. When I leave the space in this example the board inserts some angry face.)

Interesting...

I've never had a problem with the forum search function, as long as I use "advanced search"...

I've actually found it quite useful when I'm doing some digging.

I will give this a try though, thanks a lot. Perhaps I will find it to be superior to the forum search.

Great tip..
I never knew one could do that..

I've been using the Google tool bar for awhile.
I use it to spell check every post I make here.
It helps me look like less of an idiot than I really am..........

Great tip..
I never knew one could do that..
The problem with searching here is that a word has to be more than three letters.
I can't search for LCP.
But using the Google, it found several results.
