Hello all,

I just shot a match and saw several people using magwells for their handguns in IDPA. Apparently the XD can use one, as long as it still fits in the box.

I have been using my XD9 Tactical for IDPA, and I'm trying to find a magwell that will still fit in the box and keep me compliant. I've used the search function and read everything I can find, but no real definitive answer. I don't want to drop the coin unless I'm sure it won't get me a DQ.

So, anyone know the answer?

Yep that's the same one I was going to suggest. While you're there I would get a solid guide rod (not tungsten), extended mag release, and either slam pads or extended mags for the magwell. All of those mods are legal for the same class you are in now.

The Pistol Gear Patriot magwell works better IMHO for IDPA and for carry. No need for extended mags or slam pads and the front is open so you can pull out a stuck mag easily. I've run them on tactical models as well as XDm's.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the info and the move to the right area. Took me a while to find it though.

I'll take a look at those and see which one will work for me. I didn't realize they were pricey - how do people afford to make raceguns?

I've been buying piece by piece so that helps. That's why I like IDPA too, there are a lot less $3000+ guns out there.

I run the Operator magwell on a XDM 4.5 with the .250 base pads. Works great, fits perfectly and is IDPA legal in ESP.
Did you shave off any of your basepads? Mine were just too tight to get out of IDPA box. Ended up modifying 3 to probably .2. Also do you use the adhesive stickies that come with the pads or another adhesive/glue etc?

Mine just fit in the box, but maybe my club's box is a little generous. I started out with the adhesive the pads came with, but it only lasted about 3 matches. Clean that crap off and use super glue. Works great.
