It is a 9mm, yawn.

Padraig
It's a start. I assume you want 10mm or 45 acp? In reality, it's a pistol so caliber doesn't really matter, hits do. Not getting into the caliber debate but they looked at ammo sales and had to start somewhere.

I've got 1911 single stack 45acp and had 10mm. Just sold off all my 10mm because I just didn't shoot them. Very good caliber, I just didn't shoot them. I shoot rifles more.

Yeah…the VP70? A doublestack, polymer, striker-fired DAO machine pistol owed nothing to the Makarov, a DA/SA, single-stack, all-steel hammer-fired semiautomatic.

About the only think they have in common is that they are both straight blowback…and there were many examples of those prior to the Mak.

I’ve got copies of both (VP70Z, so—no fun switch or stock)…there’s no design similarity at all.

Kinda surprised there isn't a thread going yet but let's get it started!

I have been wanting and drooling over a Staccato for over a year. Two guys at work bought Staccato XL pistols and at $3500, is just not going to happen for me. Another coworker bought an Atlas at $6300. Woah. I'm sure it's amazing but I am trying to justify a $2400 Staccato P.

Along comes SA and their Prodigy. Holy crap. This is EXACTLY what we needed right now.

I saw the leaked photos a few days ago and I'm sure the leaked photos are what mad them launch today instead of the rumored 9/3. Either way, they were on gunbroker for MSRP and I had to have one.

I bought the 5" without Hex as they show that there will be a plate for a Holosun 509t which is my preferred optic.

To finish my thought, youtube has some great videos. Colion Noir as always is awesome. Texas Plinkster compares it to his Staccato XC.

I've not been so excited for a pistol in my life. I know it won't be a Staccato or Atlas but it's a 2011, yeah, I know, I know, but I can afford this one. And maybe I'll pick up the 4.25" just because.
No. They were always gonna launch on 9/1 no matter the leak.
I’ve held the 5” version. Sweet gun.

Quite a few reports coming back of these having significant feed issues. I’d hold off.
I'd like to hear of the reports too. I hear far more reports of them being great. Yep, a mass produced gun vs a more hand fit like a Staccato or Atlas has the potential of issues. However there are enough out there for review that I think there would have been product line wide issues found before launch. It's not like these pistols are a new technology. A big company like SA hopefully did their homework and figured out where trouble spots could be a made sure to figure it out. All the other lines they produce are excellent so they know how to make a gun, via HS Produckt I realize but they're still involved.

I bet the few reports of issues will be corrected by SA and that the product line of 1911DS will be a huge hit. Just my guess and hope.

It is a Staccato wannabe... Or any other 2011 double stack... Which isn't a 1911... And it sure isn't a XD or XDm. If and when we get enough interest, maybe it can get a forum. For now, we don't need miltiple threads saying the same thing about a new Springfield nobody has yet.

Xds are just HS2K wannabees.

But if someone likes what's offered then that's about all that is relevant.

Stopped by my local place; they had one Prodigy yesterday, I was gonna handle it…

Sold out.

The future of 2011s remain to be seen. It's a good design... But not much fanfare over the few double stack 1911s designed so far. And so far... For 2011s...its a real niche market for race guns by boutique shops... AKA SVI... AKA STI... AKA Staccato. But who knows... Maybe Springfield can change that with a lower cost option directed at normal folk. That would be cool... But they still need a RO level and a "Loaded" level.

Now like we've seen SA is the licensing king... But if patents really have expired on the 2011... Then what will Kimber put out.... Hummm

BUL out of Israel has had a version out for a while; let’s see what happens when the Turks & the Pinoys take a swing at it.

Could you share where these reports can be found? I’d like to see them.
They’re everywhere.
I wouldn’t take one of these for half of what they’re asking.

So what does this give you that an XDM 9mm doesn't? (I am not trying to imply there is nothing. I am trying to prepare to explain why I would need to buy one.....)

It's a double stack 1911. A. XDM is not.

OK, so what does that give you that the XDM doesn't? I see Cuda66 says it has a better trigger, so that's one thing. (On that, what would it cost to put a trigger in the XDM that is comparable to the one in the Prodigy, either with a replacement or by having a gunsmith improve the XDM's trigger). The XDM doesn't have a manual safety, so if one wanted that, there is another advantage to the Prodigy. What else? Capacity is comparable. Don't both have good barrels?
