An alternative approach, that works well, and is closer to the bore.
You can get a mount that replaces the rear sight, or have the slide machined, as illustrated.

AZXD I would like to try a setup like yours. I friend of mine that I shoot Steel Challenge with had a simular setup on his Glock. It failed one weekend, so I'm a little nervous doing a slide mount. It does look like a lot of folks are using that setup, so it must work.

 

rmr has great reviews with this use.

it and others you can have teh slide milled to lower down the optic if you so choose

Got mine from Cmore used the Sig mount for my XDM 4.5 40 really like it
