While at the range today I noticed that the "thingy" that is suppose to remain slid back and in the open position when the last round is fired....did not.
I changed magazines (notice I did not say "clip") with no avail. Might she be shy about opening up and letting me get a peak inside?

By "thingy" are you referring to the slide?

Put an empty mag in it and work the slide by hand. Does it lock back? If not, make sure the follower, which is what the last round sits on, is hitting the the slide catch and pushing it up.

On second thought, make sure that your grip isn't interfering with the slide lock lever. Try shooting it left handed and see if it still malfunctions.

We have a winner! Me thinks that I was somehow preventing the slide lock to engage with these two hammocks I have for hands.

Thingy problems are almost always a result of operator error.
