Basically between a Glock 30S or XDS 45 for my lady's carry gun we (she) chose the XDS without seeing the 30S. She liked the gun and how it felt and the added safeties with the gun. Long story short purchased it and looked into having SA install night sights. Then a couple weeks later heard about the mass recall. I contacted SA and asked if they could handle the sights/recall at the same time. They said No immediately and it kinda upset me. So I parked the gun in the safe and called in today and asked the same question and still NO! I feel that its wrong and I even told them they could keep it as long as needed to get both things done at once. Obviously I am trying to save on shipping call me tight or an ____ you fill in the blank but where is the customer service here? Thanks for your input, Carl.

First of all, when did you purcahse the pistol. For several months now, all newly purchased XDs pistols don't need to be sent in because they have already had the changes made before being sold. Maybe your pistol doesn't have to be sent back.

Second, if your pistol does need to be sent in for the warranty work, Springfield pays for the shipping, both ways. You will not end up having to pay twice because there is no charge to you for the warranty related shipping.

Third, why send the pistol (or the slide) to Springfield for night sight installation? I am sure you can find a local gun smith to install the sights for you. Probably won't cost more than the shipping would have cost, and you won't be without the pistol for as long.

I don't have an exact date but it was last earlier last year and it is included in the recall. I know that the shipping for the recall is free but I just wanted it all done at one time plus to my benefit I wouldn't have to pay to ship the slide. I wanted SA to install the sights because well I just wanted them to do it. And I also wasn't able to find an exact fit for tritium night sights with a white outline then don't know about now. I have read where people have said this will fit and that will fit. I wanted an exact fit installed by SA. Thanks Carl.

Perhaps send in her XDS to Springfield to have the warranty work on their dime. They had been giving out an extra high capacity magazine "for your trouble". I assume they still do. After you get it back, get with James here on the forum. XD-man. He is a forum sponsor. Ship your slide to him the for night sight install. I understand he has super quick turn around time and a slide wouldn't be as much as the full gun. I suspect he has more sight options than the factory, and may beat their price as well.

By all the testimonials here, I think I'd trust him (even over the factory) to do any non-warrantied work.

Thanks to all of you that replied I actually sent an email to Springfield and they got back to me quickly and have agreed to do the sights while the gun is in for the recall. Some people may disagree about doing so but it's seems simpler to have it done while it's there. I'm getting full tritium sights with a white outline installed for $129. Pretty sure they're trijicon's, I personally like the white outline and my lady does too. It's what we are used to as that's what's on my glock 22. She carries the G22 daily in her purse and I believe it's going to be hard to get it back from her when the XDS comes back. Springfield said less than 2 weeks for a turnaround time. Thanks again, Carl.
