So I've figured out that the XDm is mainly for competition/range shooting, and will probably only be available in one size.. Anyone know if Springfield has any plans to take some of the XDm changes back to the smaller XD's?

I like the way the slide on the XDm looks, much more than the step-cut on the old XD. The grip would be nice to have as well

Why would you think the XDM is for range shooters only? I use it as a daily carry gun. I just finished a class where a number of officers were carrying them as duty and concealed arms. The 5" XD is more of a range gun than the XDM.

Size-wise, it doesn't seem like your typical carry pistol. It's not unconcealable, but it's definitely no compact. And then there's this post:

Anyway, I much prefer the looks of the XDm, I'm wondering if they'll ever "update" the other XD's, or maybe they want them to look really different

It is roughly the same size as a Glock 17 or a M&P. It is also much smaller than a 1911. Seems to be a pretty good carry gun in my opinion.
