Does anyone know or have experience with this topic? I want to get a XDM 5.25 comp gun and have a Match Trigger and Match Bbl fit. It seems cheaper to order one from the custom shop directly to save expense on parts you would just replace.

Is this even possible to build to save money up front or will they require I buy a stock gun, then send it in for the mods?

Thanks for any first hand knowledge on this.

Seems like I called and asked the SA Custom Shop this question a few years ago, and it was not an option, it was suggested I purchase a new 5.25 and then send it in, but the 5.25 was brand new to their line up. Not sure about now, they might have a product such as this, but I don't see it in their 2014 catalog, in the rear where they show some custom guns and part numbers.

The route we went was buying a new 5.25, and sending it to Scott Springer's shop, Springer Precision, they are a sponsor here on XDTalk and one of the premier custom/parts shop for the XD and XD(M) family. They do awesome trigger work, and can fit a barrel if that is what you want. They did a full out custom comp gun for us, could not be any happier with their work.

I just went through trying to find an XDM 5.25" 9mm that included a PRP match trigger and a Dawson .100" front FO sight. After pricing it out, I decided to go with a Dawson Precision CRP "Custom Shop" XDM. The CRP includes a Springfield Custom Shop (SCS) XDM with the following:

  • [*]Competition Action Job (includes 3.5 pound trigger pull and reduction of overtravel and reset).
    [*]Smooth front face of trigger.
[*]Springfield Custom Shop fit Match Barrel.
[*]Fully adjustable low mount rear sight.
    [*]Dawson .100" FO sight
    [*]Grip and base pad tape
    [*]Dawson's Sight in Guarantee
The trigger included with the SCS XDM is the PRP trigger. The price from Dawson was $914. Bang for your buck I couldn't beat this price.

Best price I can find on the XDM 5.25 9mm was around $700. Include the PRP trigger and Dawson front sight brought the price up to $900. PRP has the XDM with match trigger and Dawson sight for $930 but it's on back order.

So I went with the Dawson CRP SCS pistol. It is a "stock" XDM pistol that has over $500 worth of SCS work done to it. The box that the XDM came in says "Springfield Custom Shop".

This Dawson CRP is the best "stock" gun I have every purchased. The trigger breaks cleanly at 3.5 lbs and is as close to a 1911 trigger I've ever felt on a polymer gun. It easily shoots 1.5" groups at 50'. Every person that has tried it comments it's the best trigger they have felt on a polymer framed gun.

You really can't go wrong with the Dawson CRP if you want a Springfield Custom Shop XDM.
