I currently own a xd40 5" tactical. I use it to shoot in the range and home defense. My friends is now convincing me to start shooting competion, tactical or so. Would my 5" tactical would work or 4" service will be better? I am now thinking of trading it for 4". Can someone please give me an advise or opinion. This forum made me decide to get the XD40 and all of you are always in good help. Thanks!

If your shooting USPSA/IPSC then stay with the Tactical. The longer sight radius and extra weight of the Tactical is a big advantage over the Service. If your shooting IDPA you might be better off with the shorter gun but I am not real sure on that one. It will depend alot on what kind of competive shooting your going to get into.

I use my Tacticals in both IDPA and USPSA. I also use my 4" models in IDPA. For me, the 4" feels quicker on the point, but I shoot better scores with the 5". No need to change guns if you shoot the 5" well.
Happy shooting!
