XD Trigger Differances??

My LGS has a 3 ea used XD service models in stock. (2- 40's and a 9).
I was considering one of the 40's, and later getting a 9mm conversion barrel for it...but today I discovered he has a 9 service model as well.

I have shot one of the 40's. It's trigger was ok. It staged, and I could tell when it will break and fire, then a little over travel. It is consistent and I like it. Then pistol though, looks to have been run hard and not cared for well.

The second he took in on trade is in much better shape, but the trigger...It's like squeezing a marshmellow, and then there is a point where you can feel it may be about ready to fire, and it does, almost by accident and with out any real feeling/brake in the trigger. Not very fond of it.

The 9mm it checked out, supposedly hasn't been fried much, and I'm dubious of that, but the trigger on it is completely different that the other two. It feels like I would expect it to, almost like the first of the 40's, but there's almost a "snag" when squeezing the trigger, like it may be hanging on something internally.....but breaks clean after that, and it's not every time...

I've fired many different pistols of differant makes and calibers, but I'm not sure what to make of the XD triggers in these three. I'm almost wondering if work had been done on one or two of them.

Anyway, I would appreciate any feedback or advice. Do any of these descriptions sound normal or what an XD trigger should be??
I really like the ergos and sights on the XD Service over the XDM and wouldn't mind trying an XD, probably in the 9 (It only has one full size mag and 2 10 rounders), but could go with the 40.

Thanks

I plan on going back and looking them over again next week.
It just struck me as odd the three being so different.
If I can catch him when he's not busy, I'll take a look on the inside of them.

There's quite a bit of inconsistency in factory XD-series triggers. If you search past posts here, you'll find this to be true, and mentioned by many shooters.

I've felt more - as well as less - out-of-the-box inconsistencies in other makes/models as well. I think the worst I've ever experienced was the KelTec PMR30. Luckily, I went there on an off-day, at off-hours, and the clerk was more than happy enough to dig through their entire batch shipment until I found one with both the slide pull as well as trigger path that I was satisfied with.

^ And I know what you mean, too. :)

With the PMR30s, it was actually completely ridiculous. There were slides that were so reluctant to move (I'm no He-Man, but I'm not a complete pencil-neck, either - I can close the #2 CoC) that both myself and the clerk laughed. A trigger is more subjective, but that slide was something that we could both equally feel, and it was absolutely ridiculous.

With secondary-market guns, there's always the chance that something is no longer factory or that there's just a lot of harsh miles on the gun. So, yes, that definitely can play a role.

But even new, out-of-the-box XD-platform guns aren't known for consistency, from unique sample to unique sample.

I've had an XDS and didn't like it.
I've not had an XD and would like to try one out for a bit. I was at the range today, and tried an XDm, 9mm that a guy had there. I still like the feel of the original XD model better.
