XD Torture Test Article in Handguns Magazine June/July Issue

I thought the good people on this forum might be interested to know that an article I wrote a while back has finally been published in Handguns Magazine. It's in the June/July 2005 issue.

I took an off-the-shelf XD-9 and put 20,000 rounds through it, about 1,100 of which also replicate the Glock torture tests (The tests they used in their magazine ads for years. I.e. freezing the gun, burying it in mud, etc.).

There is also a companion article on holsters for the XD.

Just a heads-up if anyone's interested.

All the best,

Cool sounds interesting... but what is the glock torture test?
Is this issue on the shelves now?
I, and I am sure many here, can't wait to read it.
Thanks for the heads up.

Hopefully it performed well for you and got a good review.

Anyway you could not tease us soo much and just let us know now whether or not it got a favorable review. I will still count on buying the magazine when it hits the shelves.
but what is the glock torture test?
Where your XD is traded for a Glock for a week, and you have to make do. It's hell on a person.

LMAO
Glock torture test was afaik something done on www.gunvideo.com by Lenny Mcgill. They basically freeze a glock, put it through mud etc.. I can't say much of details as i have never seen the video and really don't want to spend the money to buy a DVD watching a glock get abused.

Now it was an XD it would be a whole nother story

Oh, this one would set off some of the boys on Glocktalk! From what I've read about some of them over there, you'd probably have to put them in a straight jacket if you made such a comment to them.
The magazine is just getting to news stands now. I picked up a copy yesterday. I think it's officially going to be on news stands on April 26, so it may be a while, depending on where you live.

To end the suspense, it did indeed get a favorable review. 20,000 rounds without a single malfunction. And that's after I slathered it in mud, buried it in dirt and sand, froze it in ice, etc. etc. I walked away from the test very impressed.

Hey now. I go to glocktalk quite often. There are the brand loyalty types who will talk crap about every other gun out there and believe that theirs is the best. I'm not a big fan of that line of thinking though. There are a ton of great products out there from many different manufacturers. Why limit yourself to just one? Glocks are great guns. So are XDs, Sigs, HKs, Kimbers, etc. They're all different and I have a hard time comparing them to each other as to which is better than which.
I would be interested to know if the XD was sent back to springfield Armory service Dept. and analyzed afterwards to see what parts were still in spec. Hopefully it's included in the article. Thanks for sharing this news, I will be hunting around the stores looking for this issue. Take care.

I will be sure to pick it up. Do I smell a Pulitzer? :D

I'd like to see a follow-up where it is slathered in Arby's sauce, wood-smoked with the finest Tabasco-soaked hickory chips, stored and aged in a wheel of cheese for 7 months, then finally baked at the center of a delicious chicken pot pie.
I own several xds and hs2000`s with more than 20,000 rounds and the only parts that ever broke were the ejector on one but I was not using sa oem mags so its my fualt. And a grip safety spring had an arm break...the pistol would still shoot and would continue too but it was always enguaged.

By the way I am looking forward to the issue.
I hope I can get that mag in Australia. I want to read about it.
Cheers

Hey NiK,

Do you have some issues with food?
I was pretty hungry when I wrote that.
Im definitely buying HANDGUNS soon, even though my handgun mag of choice is American Handgunner.
I'm with Glfpunk. The XD's a great platform, but does it have anything on the Glock, don't think so. Glock does have a much more diversified product line, they make 10mm's!
masterofg3, this trolling really has to stop....
