Went to Gander Mountain today to look for a holster for my XD9 service. I saw that they had the XD Gear Holser.

It looks really cool. It was also very comfortable. It is a paddle type holster.

Here's the goofy think though. It has picatinny rails on the top and bottom of it for accesories. Why?? You can't put out the holster and turn on the flashlight and THEN pull out the pistol and shoot. I can understand if it was to "hold" the items (which I guess it can) but as far as I know, you can't just pull of these items once they are attached.

So, I'm not really understanding why the rails, unless just because they look cool?????????

An idea would be to make pouches, for mags, lights, cuffs, etc, that can slide on to the rails. Again you have the same problem as you do with getting a light off the rails.

In the end, it may just be a marketing thing. Going for the tactical cool factor.

I have one; you can carry the light, etc. on the rail and then slip it off and put it on your weapon. probably not the fastest switch though.

If you attempt to pu the light on the gun then engage the PERP you will be dead or wounded before you are able to accomplish the switch!

This is the reason why I am CCW testing a holster that can hold the pistol with the laser already attached.
