I have settled on the XD's and the CZ's as the only brands in centerfire I buy now in autos.Over the years I have owned a lot of different autos.I can switch back and forth between the two and shoot equally well.I have a large folder filled with the pink slips I have saved for my records of all the hand guns I have owned.I gave my H&K's to my son but I still like to shoot them some times.I can find any thing I want in an auto that I want between the two.In the revolver cannon guns I buy Rugers.I have gone thru" I just got to have one of these for thirty years".I do not want to know how much money I have lost on trades and sales over the years.I also drive a Subaru.200,000 miles,no problems.

I agree with you. :) I think that for the money they are the best buys and the most gun you can get. Both have great ergonomics and are very accurate. I will however still have other guns just to make sure I do not get complacent. "Overspecialize and you breed in weakness, it is slow death." -- The Major in "Ghost in the Shell". This means revolvers and some other autos will still be in my safe. For carry or serious shooting it wil be CZ and XD all the way though.

I too love the XD's and CZ's. Ruger 6's are great. I still need to go out and get another S&W 29/629. I've had two of those and sold them both. Now I need to go get another.

I almost bought a CZ 85 Combat instead of my XD-40 Tac. I was nervous about getting the XD-40 because I was so happy with the 85 Combat. It worked out in the end because I am very happy with my XD-40. The 85 Combat that I was shooting was a range rental gun that I still rent quite a bit.. it brings too big of a smile to my face for me to just let it go. Sooo the next gun on the list to buy is a CZ. I am waiting for the SP-01 to get here. I read on czforum that it is on the way :D.

I just got rid of a S&W M29 6 1/2" classic to get a Taurus M44CP 4" .44Mag. I think it is as good or better. It has a better secondary lock up for the cylinder that does not use the ejector rod. I find the M29 has problem with the ejector rod unscrewing a bit after a few cylinders and then jamming up the cylinder from breaking open, especially with magnum rounds. Also I need a 4" so I can take a concealed carry course with a revolver. The Taurus comes with a compensator built in stock for under $400. Shoots good too.

I agree with you 100%. I've owned lots of handguns. I think XD's and CZ's are great guns and also great bargains. I still own a Sig but don't think I would spend that much money again on a pistol as long as XD's and CZ's are available.

you mean... Springfield Armory and CZ.

cause everyone needs a good 1911.
Through bitter experience I have learned that there is no such thing as a good 1911.

I can understand if you have been burned by a 1911 or two. I had some colts about 20 years ago that were junkers. It left a bad taste in my mouth. Several years ago a friend of mine found out I was into the practical shooting game and sent me a 1911. It is now my favorite gun and he is building another as we speak. Very accurate and reliable. One slide nudge in the last 2400 rounds with reloads. If I only had one, it would be a 1911 for carry or play. $.02

Surprised to hear that. Maybe I've just been lucky, but my 1911 (SA) has been even more reliable than my XD Sub.

While the XD has been almost perfect, I have had two or three stovepipes. The 1911 so far has been 100%.

I just wish it weren't so expensive to shoot. (Still looking for a .22--I've been out of town but will resume the search).

Peace,
D.

growing up around the construction industry and heavy equipment my father allways taught me...

its not the equipment, its the opperator.
LOL. The why do all the stock 1911 need all those aftermarket parts and tuning to make them work reliable? Actually, my main problem with 1911s is the narrow opening for mags. I won't attach a magwell funnel as it does not CCW well and there is only so far that you can flare the bottom of the frame at the magwell opening. It may be my technique, but I know I have lightning fast reloads with XD and other double stacks.
