I know there is a .45GAP and a .357 SIG, but why is there not a
XD .45 auto??

Given that the XD frame is chambered in the 45GAP now is there a need for a 45 ACP version? Certainly from being able to afford to shoot it, it would be nice as the ACP can be had a lot cheaper than the 45GAP but from a ballistics point of view the 45ACP and the 45GAP are tuff to tell apart after the bullet has left the muzzle.

I have a conceptual problem with .45 GAP. For years, 9mm, .38 super, and .40 shooters have had to separate their brass religiously because of the variants.. But us .45acp shooters never did. The worst thing was the occasional .40 case that got stuck inside a .45 during tumbling. NOW the bastages come up with this .45 GAP and suddenly I have to start sorting too. The worst part is that dsespite my overwheelming desire to mash the GAP brass out of sheer frustration, I cannot because it's worth so damn much... UGH.

Sorry but the only plastic 45 needed is a Glock 30. The G30 is so good that there is really no need for a 45 acp XD imho.

I do enjoy my XD but everything has it's place.

Glock grip angles suck for me and after seeing my share of ADs caused by thumbbreak straps getting caught in the trigger, I am not a fan of them. If I want to shoot .45ACP, I use the best pistol for that caliber, a 1911.

As for why no .45ACP, the XD is Croatia's military and police sidearm. In Europe, the .45ACP is not a common caliber so there is no reason for them to completely retool to make a different design. The only reason the .45GAP exists is because it uses the same frame as the other XDs.

Ed........if my memory serves me correctly, ACP stands for Auto Colt Pistol.This was the designation given to the venerable .45 auto when it all started long ago.If anyone has more info.please correct me.......Herman.

Here are some measurments I took today between my XD 9 and my Tuarus 24/7 in .45acp.
1) backstrap
XD= 1.195 in. wide
Tuarus= 1.159 in. wide

2) Length from back of grip back of tigger guard
XD= 2.030 in.
Tuarus= 1.902 in.

3) Length at bottom of grip frame
XD= 2.075 in.
Taurus= 2.060 in.

I feel there was room for Springfield to work with.
BTW the Taurus has a 12 round mag.
