Sorry, just need to vent. I can't believe a few pieces of metal costs a couple hundred dollars. I need a 17-20 footer, and I can't seem to find them for a reasonable price. If I still had my welder, I'd probably just make some out of scrap tubing.

Not to mention, that with regular use, they need to be replaced often to remain "safe." I smell a conspiracy. For non-professional use, just get a folding ladder that has multiple configurations... then you'll only need one, and you will find plenty of uses once you have it. I "borrowed" my dad's and haven't returned it for almost a year...

Happened when GW and DC decided to go kick some ass in Iraq. 4X8 lattice when from 5.00 to around 30.00. Plastic garbage cans went from 40.00 to 100.00. Ya I looked at 20 foot ladders, didn't bother to buy one. There was a war on what better time to price gouge with the governments blessing?

Depending on the ladder, the two extra cost are liability insurance and shipping. On a 6' step ladder, the liability insurance can range from$7.00 to $11.00. On the large extension ladders, shipping can add between 30.00 and 50.00 per ladder. Adds up real quick....

yeah... OSHA (sp?) visited my dad not to long ago, bc they "heard" his ladders were not to date.... he proved them wrong after they tried to make him buy 5 new 20-40 ladders and new 100' picks (sp?) was going to cost him almost 2000 for these, until he proved that they were actually new enough... sad thing that everyone is after us for our money.....
