I'm looking to buy my Son IL about 100 rounds of this ammo for his Saiga. Ammoman has it at 149 for 200 rounds. Anyone know of cheaper? I've checked Natchez and Cabela's, no joy there.

I hope you are kidding.... right?

7.62 x 51mm NATO will also shoot 308 Winchester.

Most of it is hard to come by and if you find it for under 70cents a round BUY IT!

The current price of .308 is a tragedy. Just two years ago the South African battle packs (200rds) were $75. That was if you were getting fleeced at the gun show. Most of the time it was cheaper. This is why I reload all rifle rounds now. I can make match grade ammo for about half the price, if you use once fired it gets even cheaper. Sorry Gents but it is time for everyone to reload ammo, if you are serious about shooting. As for anywhere that has cheap .308 try here.

AIM .308 .308

Sure it is steel cased. But it is going into a Saiga, it is the AK's big brother it will be fine.

No I wasnt kidding. Was I just mistaken? I thought 7.62x54mm was the round that is also considered .308?

This German surplus 308/7.62x51 ammo is awesome stuff. It will shoot sub-MOA out of my bolt guns and just over MOA out of my AR-10. I really like it and it is cheaper than most these days.

Good luck and Merry Christmas to your family (particularly your son IL who has an awesome FIL to buy him ammo for Christmas...wish to heck my inlaws would get the picture already)!! ;)

Firearms chambered for 7.62 are most likely NATO.

The 7.62x51 NATO chambered rifle will fire and function .308 Winchester. The .308 Winchester is a tad bit smaller and I think there is a head space difference?

The same goes for the 5.56. It will shoot .223 Winchester but again the .223 is a tad bit smaller.

There are many 7.62 ammunition types in 51mm / 39 / 54 etc and some pistol rounds as well.

Any experts out there that have a chart?

Wow! Glad I found this out. I honestly did not know there was a 7.62x51. All I ever noticed was 7.62x54 and 7.62x39.
