If you decide to go with the XML, you'll need to think about using a holster which will allow you to carry the gun with the light attached. I don't know how readily available those are.

You basically don't want to get suck in a pinch with having to draw you weapon, then draw your light, then attach your light to your gun, then actuqire your target.

The night sights will allow you to cut those steps down to just draw and acquire since the sights are allways attached, and don't require a special holster :)

don't get me wrong, i'm a big fan of lights, i have a Streamlight M3 and Surefire X200.

I've got an XD Service which i'm thinking about adding night sights to, but i can't decide between the Trijicons or the Mepro's. My normal carry piece is a Kahr PM9 which doesn't have any provisions for attaching a light, but it came with tritium night sights (the brand i can't figure out, there isn't any marking on them and the specs just say 'night sights'). I think they are Mepro's, but, i like them a lot.

I think in a pinch, i think i'd want the night sights instead of the light, remember, the light points both ways, not only does it illuminate your target but it gives the bad guy(s) a nice idea of where you are. To them, the light could be a nice 'attack here' type indication.

I think the XML and most nightsights are all around $100 each, so, get your tax return and get a set of both :)
thats what i'd do.. for these types of prices it's hard to grab the XML and sights and decide for yourself which ones you perfer more.

good analysis of the light...

you got me thinking...here is what i will do. I will get the night sights for the XDSC carry gun, and get the M3X for my glock, which i leave at home and will never carry.

SO, night sights are a must....now should i get OD green or regular, and/or bitone or just get it hard chromed. I dont much care for the regular blued finish.

thanks again

I'm partial to my own bitone finish, so if i wanted to pick up an sc i'd probably go witha matching bitone for that as well. Both for ease of maintenace, and i just think it looks better.

As for your night sight v. tactical light dilemma i would go wtih the night sights. you can always get the light after with much more ease than you could the night sights. I would rather get the night sights put in at the factory rather than put it in myself as i am unexperienced. However, another incentive to wait on the tactical light may be the fact that the new X2(xml2) light from insight will be released soon. That gives you both the practicality of a light as well as the added feature of the laser.

just my 2cents.

The Pearce grip extension is a nice and inexpensive option. And it does what it's designed to do perfectly.

It gives your strong hand pinkie a place to go and it does not get in the way of anything. It does not even affect conceal-ability IMO.

I think the owners are pretty unanimous in their endorsement of this accessory. For me, it was by far the best $8 I could spend on my XD Subcompact. Night sights would be nice, but they are a more significant expense. And the extension grip helps on every shot. Night sights sometimes help and are sometimes unnecessary. (But nice to have).

Peace,
D.

+1 to the extensions! These really helped me solidfy my grip on the weapon!

I would also ditch the the light idea for now and go with the night sights! Much more practical when it some to a "carry" piece!

Definately the Night sights. I prefer Trijicon over Meprolight sights, but that is just me. See if you can find both at a local shop and se which ones you like better. I use Trijicon sights on both my 1911 and my XD40, as well as a trijicon reflexII on my SAR1. I have beaten the hell out of my SAR1 and my 1911, and neither sighting system has failed yet.

My choice would be bitone with night sights. The XML is handy to have if this will double as your nightstand gun. Otherwise, don't bother with it. It doesn't make much sense to try to carry it concealed, because it will increase the bulk (forget about IWB).

The strongest point of the subcompact is its size, adding grip extensions and flashlights just negate that advantage, all IMHO of course.

bitone with trijicons and grip extension.
hmmmmmmm.....sounds like something I should do!!

I agree with the light part but the extensions aren't that bad. Depending on the positioning, they won't make it print any different. I had mine at a different position yesterday with a t-shirt on and it printed but the way I normally wear it people really can't tell. IMHO
