They blame sanctions and Trump for the situation in Venezuela. And yet, socialists here in the USA cannot make the connection to how Venezuela got to this point.... and what they think they want to do in our country. Cause and effect and unintended consequences are beyond their understanding.
I like to imagine a dartboard, partitioned up into sections, that liberals/democrats/the media like to throw darts at to see who to blame. They blame sanctions and Trump for the situation in Venezuela.

What could ever go wrong ...?Hey let's put the socialist left in charge here too!
Like, they have the like "new and improved" version dontcha know ...And yet, socialists here in the USA cannot make the connection to how Venezuela got to this point.... and what they think they want to do in our country
My impressions on the situation in VE is that this is more about a corrupt authoritarian government and less about failed socialism. Although VE has many social programs, just like the US and many other countries, they don’t appear to have been the cause of the country’s current problems. It appears Maduro cares little about the people of VE.And yet, socialists here in the USA cannot make the connection to how Venezuela got to this point.... and what they think they want to do in our country. But corrupt authoritarians and socialism go together so nicely. Honestly, how can you have socialism without authoritarianism? People don't willingly give all their posessions and labors over the the government without a bit of incentive. My impressions on the situation in VE is that this is more about a corrupt authoritarian government and less about failed socialism. Even a capitalistic economy, like the US for example, is not immune to economic problems caused by corrupt politicians, and those who run our governmental agencies, who put their own best interests before those of the people (e.g., 2008).

But what’s ironic is that they already do (just not to the government) and without incentives... except for maybe a promise that one day we’ll all be rich like them, they’ll create jobs for everyone, and it will all trickle down.People don't willingly give all their posessions and labors over the the government without a bit of incentive.
It’s the result of central planning and destroying free market rules and putting ignorant totalitarians in charge. One of the wealthiest countries in the hemisphere destroyed because they followed the socialist playbook exactly. My impressions on the situation in VE is that this is more about a corrupt authoritarian government and less about failed socialism. And like clockwork ignorant and stupid lefties come along and pretend what we just saw happen didn’t really happen.
I fear you may be missing the point. The social programs are just a ploy to get the masses to go along with the surrender of their rights and freedoms. Socialism, and it's impatient cousin Communism, both enshrine a central government as all-powerful. History has proven over and over that all that power invariably ends up in the hands of corrupt scumbags. Whether the power corrupts or if the power just attracts the easily corruptible is irrelevant because the end result is the same. All forms of Socialism are "failed". It is an inherently flawed ideology because it ignores basic human nature. My impressions on the situation in VE is that this is more about a corrupt authoritarian government and less about failed socialism. I don't know about that, seems to be alive and thriving here in NY and out in CA.if anyone thinks socialism is great show us one place in the world that it has worked and made that country an utopia. that little research will help you learn that socialism has failed every time its been put in place.
