Urban planners, real estate speculators and their flacks may ignore these numbers, but people take their own health, and that of their families, more seriously. A recent Harris poll suggested that upwards of two in five urban residents are considering a move to less crowded places. More people, notes the National Association of Realtors, are seeking out single family houses with yards and workspaces. Even in New York, where suburban sales (particularly to Connecticut) are rising rapidly, Governor Andrew Cuomo has been reduced to begging wealthy Gothamites to not depart for less taxed states.

Some urban refugees are even looking beyond the suburbs to the countryside. In New York, the rural counties north of the city have experienced a huge increases in demand even as demand for city apartments drops. This pattern is also seen in other rural getaways such as Montana, rural Colorado, Oregon and Maine.

Thing is the ones moving out to thw country drag all the bs of the city with them and commence to ruin where ever it is they land.

Watched it happen here.

40 yrs ago when I graduated HS in a small town just north of SA we had 200 in grad class. Same HS(in name new bigger campus the campus I was in is now 7-8th only) now over 2k per class Why all the yuppies in SA wanted to move to the scenic hill country. Now the area I grew up in that was rural and quite is now over populated and over developed just like the **** they wanted to leave behind.

There is also this b.s. article I read a while back about why the "suburban experiment has failed".... or some other nonsense like that. Was some urban planner "professional" talking about why the move to suburbs was/is such a bad thing. Was all about controlling people. Got about 1/2 way through before my head exploded from their nonsense. It seems just like everywhere else, the people with any power think THEY need to control everyone else.

For me....get me out of the cities and while I will be the first to admit that I would have a very hard time living without infrastructure of stores, utilities, etc...... I sure as hell don't want to be in some large city ANYWHERE.... no matter if D or R controlled. I will take country / suburb any time.

Looking for the reference, I found a couple of different articles referencing the same thing, but not the specific one I had read..... this is another pile of horse manure though...

We are getting the frack of cities too. Ours is a truly clusterF of a mess thanks to the brilliant Radical Leftist leadership that turned a once prosperous and family friendly city into a homeless, pedophile, gangbanger, Socialist, and SJW paradise. All for the countryside and self-reliance.

As for Lightfoot she is a damn elite refusing to adhere to any criminal prosecution of rioters and BLM murders and blaming Trump for everything how disgusting.

Lastly BLM are domestic terrorists and need to be forcibly removed. Anyone see the footage of the man beaten, dragged of his truck, robbed, and nearly murdered?? The peaceful and tolerant BLM.

If BLM people believe that Black lives really matter to them, then they are going to have to get to the "root of the problem" and start policing out all the druggies and known criminals from their own communities. They are going to have to quit protecting those known lawbreakers and turn them in to the police instead of turning a blind eye on criminal activity because they are "Brothers". Until this happens, things are not going to get better. The "Black Brotherhood" is keeping black people from gaining what the BLM protesters are trying to get. Every violent act that happens during the protests sets back the whole protest. Burning and looting while demanding respect is a major roadblock to the protests. The protesters need to stop the criminal activity that happens while they are protesting instead of letting police have to do the job, and then blame the police because the protest isn't working.

It’s easier for people to live in cities, especial those with limited means.

Most multigenerational poor families can’t get the same quality of life in the suburbs or rural areas. I know that sound a bit counterintuitive but consider available of public transport, social services, effort it travel to the store, reach health services, schools etc. almost all of which is taxpayer supported to one degree or another.

It is this group that is fodder for the race / class war. They aren’t the ones you need to worry about... they aren’t going anywhere. It’s the working and middle class city dwellers who have a choice. They bring their “progressive”, equality of outcomes mindset and now local politics starts to shift.

It takes about 20 years for most twenty somethings to understand conservatism. The Churchill quote is true.

Whatever your philosophy prepare for a political knife fight, or prepare to move.

My big fear is all these rich liberals fleeing the disasters in the cities will "fix" everything for us poor backwards yokels, instead of realizing why the cities went to crap in the first place.
Remember it wasn't covid that destroyed the cities. All covid did was to reduce the reasons to put up with all that crap that was already firmly in place. Covid didn't bring any negatives unique to the city.

As the owner of Seattle E-Bike in Pioneer Square, he said violence is happening so often in this area, including crimes directed toward his store, that he's moving his business out of downtown.

"Downtown Seattle is Tombstone Arizona,” Nordwall said. “There is no law and order. There is no civil authority and everybody knows it."

Can you imagine the type of people downtown Seattle will be gaining? Now compare the character of those people with the people that are leaving for good.

Back when Al Gore was inventing the internet there were stories circulating about moving everyone into metro areas. The Washington Farmer magazine showed a simulation of what it would be like. Basically in Washington State there would be a “corridor” between Spokane and Seattle. It would be fenced off and very limited or no access on or off. Small farms would all be combined into large centralized areas and everything else would become wilderness areas with no access at all. Anyone not working on the farms, processing plants ect would live either in Spokane or Seattle, that’s it! Doesn’t sound much like the land of the free to me!! All this crap going on now reminds me of the Escape from NY movie. Biggest bitch I have is like what has been stated here above. All the clueless come into our happy areas just to screw it up like they did their own backyards.

To save Seattle some serious action needs to happen. We can't let the unemployables take over. I think a change in the way homeless people are treated is in order. To get free food, they have to work or starve. Even if it is just sweeping the streets and picking up litter. Let them weed out their own with mandatory work to eat. Mother Nature does this with all other animals on earth by survival of the fittest. Only the strongest of each species survive. Humans are over populated and need to be thinned out.

A story on the exodus out of Chicago is below.

I checked in with a college buddy who lives/lived Northwest of O'Hare. They raised their children in a nice house in the suburbs. They put their house on the market recently, it sold in 20 hours (less than one day), and they were out for August 27 (buyers wanted in ASAP). I wonder why...

Here is the thing; in the country, you can get dirt cheap housing in a crime free area. add in fresh air, peace and quiet, nature, etc. If you are telecommuting anyways, why would anyone live in the city? ps. I had cable internet in the house I purchased for less than $5k and sold for $30k. The place I am now, I use cellular based internet, but I have no trouble streaming to many devices. Once 5G takes hold, I suspect everyone will use wireless for everything.
