So i fondled some new sub compacts at mylocal store the other day and i am looking a two models now, a XD40SC and a Glock G27.....

im obviuosly satisfied with my XD40 SVC and my first choice would be the 40SC but i really like the G27 as well.... I felt really good in my hand and i like the small compact grip for concealment as the next handgun i buy will be used for my backup/ offduty carry weapon...

Any thoughts? I know there will be a bbiased towards the XD but i just want to get some opinions on the Glock, i know there are some officers on here some where that have used it before.

Thanks

I'm really happy with my xd40sc. It shoots very similar to my XD40 service. I haven't shot the Glock though. I like the looks of the XD better.

I've fired both and all I can say is that I didn't care for either one in 40 cal. I've never found a sub-compact larger than 9mm that I really liked. With the high degree of muzzle flip that comes with a 40 cal I had difficulty keeping my strong hand pinkie firmly anchored on the grip. It would slip off the bottom on probably 7 out of 10 shots forcing me to re-adjust before the next shot. A set of grip extensions would help a great deal, I'm sure.

Putting shooting comfort aside though, I found both to be plenty accurate and serviceable. I had no trouble putting 10 rounds in the 10 ring at 30' with either.

I've fired both and personally like the XD40SC, big surprise. The G27 is a little shorter from the slide to the bottom of the grip (only by about 1/2" though). The G27 is not a bad gun, I even considered getting rid of my XDSC, but after shooting each a little more I came to my senses and kept the XD.

You mention this will be a backup gun as well as an off-duty gun. I recommend keeping with the same caliber as your duty gun. If you carry a G22, get the G27. The mags will go from the 22 right into the 27. If you carry an XD40 SVC get the XD40SC. Same thing with the mags.

Whichever gun you do get, be sure to put some Pearce grip extensions on it as that drastically helped my shooting. Hope this helps, good luck.

Well, forget the glock.
I have two SCs in 9mm and they are near the top of my faves list but give the M&P compact a try. I have fondled one several times in the gun store and they feel good in my hand. I have a full size M&P 45 it's a fine gun and I'm sure I will get the compact at some time as well.

I love my xd40sc and would recomend it to others to shoot and decide for themselves....a must as mentioned is the grip exstentions. I switch between a snub .357 in the summer and consider the .40 sc much easier on the hands.

Shoot them both if you have the chance and go with the one that feels better to you....not what someone else tells you is better.

I have shot the Glock 27 and feels pretty good.. it's just that the grip its a little thicker than my XD9 SC (same size as XD40 SC).

Here's a couple of pics for comparison that I took when I bought my XD9 and my brother purchased his G27. Hope they help

Another thing that I see as being very much in favor of the XD is pretty well illustrated in this pic. Look how much more room there is in the trigger guard of the XD. If you have large fingers or will ever be wearing gloves this could be a huge benefit.

have you looked into a Sig P239? Every Sig i've ever handled has felt REAL nice in the hand, and you know what kind of quality your getting with a Sig.

I have had a XD SC 9mm for a number of years. I also have had a Glock 23 for a long time. I went to the gun shop to get a G27 and came home with a M&P 40c. Give the S&W M&P a feel. It fits my hand perfectly. If you only carry one gun at a time, any mag compatibility issue is not too important.
I like the M&P every bit as much as the XD. Some very minor + and - to each, but all just personal preferences.
If you shoot a lot, or are picky about triggers, you might want to shoot each to compare.
All of mine are factory triggers. I like the M&P the best, the XD a close 2nd, and Glocks the least.
But they are all great pistols that will get the job done.

Between the two, I would go with the Glock in this case. The frame ht on the SC is a no go for me in this role. I recently went to buy a Sub Compact and after comparing it to a Glock 26 and a M&Pc, I bought the M&Pc. The XD is notably larger than the Smith and the Glock.

It will boil down to what you shoot best, feels best, and carries best. I have owned a G26, G30, and carry daily on duty XD45 service. I sold the 26 to a guy at a neighboring agency, they carry G19's and are authorized backups. The choice was easy for me; I wanted power and fairly good concealability. Plus, I can get 45 ammo to practice with from the PD. So, I settled on the 30 for off duty carry. Kahr PM45 for ankle carry or when the 30 might be too big. I wont go smaller than 45 now. (not starting a caliber war, just personal choice)

The only ones that never jammed were the glocks.....

I understand why you would like the 40 but, don't walk away without at least looking at the XD 9mm Sub. I have one and I carry it everyday. Great little shooter. Accuracy is great for a 3 inch. I have not shot the 40 but have heard it is a little snappy so that is whe I went to the 9mm for concealment carry and my wife can shoot it better than high cal. Good luck with your choice. XD 40 sub is a great gun.

you know i shot the 40 sub can it was a great shooter, definitely accurate but i ran in to a lot of snap. Could just be poor grip/ stance for the weapon. I know my local range will have a 9mm sub for rent there so i may try it out. I just feel more comfortable having that more powerful round behind me....

+1 on the Sig P239......

But I sold my Glock 26 when I bought my XD9sc 2 years ago.
The XD fit in my hand much better than the Glock.
The Glock back strap dug into the palm of my hand.
I did carry that Glock 26 for over 10 years without any malfunctions.
But the XD is more comfortable in my hand....
My daily carry is now a Sig P239.........
