Q: Can the magazine be left loaded for extended periods of time?
A: Yes, it will not hurt the magazine or the spring. Actually makes loading a full magazine easier.

Q: I cant get the slide (aka dust cover) off?
A: Take the magazine out first.

Q: Can I buy an XD and put in aftermarket barrels?

Q: Failure to feed / eject?
A: Try adjusting your magazine feed lips.
A: Dismantle and clean your magazine inside and lightly lube.
A: Are you limp wristing? Hold your wrist a little more stiff.
A: Is your thumb interfering with the slide action, many times this is the problem. Hold your thumb down just a little lower.
A: Sometimes the springs in the magazines need to be broken in. Leave the mags full until you get to the range. Give it a try
A: Defective design of the 40 S&W round. The short stubby round with a truncated cone bullet is just made to jam up against the chamber top, especially if the lip of the case catches on the edge of the chamber. It does not matter what gun, HK, Glock, SIG, S&W or CZ, the tying factor seems to be the round. My suggestion is try to use only rounds with rounded flat point, they seem to feed better. I know that does not do much in case of JHP usually but that is the nature of the beast

A: With the gun disassembled, it is the part of the barrel where the shell casing enters. It is shinny and at an angle. The bullet nose and case slide up this to enter the barrel. Sometimes the ramp gets debris, scratched or even is just a little off angle for the type of round your are shooting.

Q: My chamber loaded indicator is stuck in the UP position. What is wrong?
A: Is the gun loaded? Is a round in the chamber?
A: Parts 37,38, or 39... The spring keeps the indicator down until a round is chambered which lifts it up. I think what you will need to do is take down the entire slide dissemble.(you don't have to take out the extractor if you don't want to, this should not be part of your problem.) I would bet that you have some piece of "gunk" lodged between the slide frame and your indicator that is stuck in there. That will be easy enough to see after you remove the indicator, indicator spring, and indicator pin, and the entire slide assembly

A. Slide width at widest point = 1.090"
Plastic frame width just below slide = 1.190"
grip just above magazine = 1.210"
Widest part of grip (includes the raised thumb "lump" area) = 1.264
Absolute widest point (includes protrusion from slide release) = 1.286"
If comparing to other guns, bear in mind Springfield measures the overall length the way I would (total length from end of barrel to whatever point extends farthest back, be it beavertail, slide, etc.). Some (Glock) measure the total slide length, but neglect to include the portion of the grip that extends even more behind that point.

A. YES Bi Tone is stainless. Bead blasted stainless and that's why it doesn't have the "bling". This it true. Remember, Stainless = Stain LESS. It CAN rust, but isn't as prone to rust. Also, there are different grades of stainless steel that will offer more or less resistance to rust.

Q. Is the warranty transferable to a new owner?
A. According to their info pack that goes with the gun upon purchase. Paragraph one on the description of the "limited lifetime warranty". " Springfield, Inc. warrants to the initial retail purchaser that the products it wells will be free of defects in workmanship or material during his or her lifetime as long as he or she owns the product............" . Note that it says " ... initial retail purchaser...". However, later on it also states in the section titled " Disclaimer of Liability" (half way thru paragraph #2). " Springfield, Inc. will not be responsible for the results of careless handling, unauthorized repairs and adjustments, corrosion.........." .Note that it says S.A will not be responsible for ..........corrosion. And we know what they have been doing for corrosion.

Q. Ammo magazine descriptions- (as with everything else here, it is subjective)
A. *Standard capacity = a flush mag that does not extend past the end of the grip.
*High capacity = A mag that usually holds over 20 rounds and extends several inches from the grip.
*Clinton mag = a magazine that was designed to hold more then ten rounds, but had been altered to diminish the capacity to comply with federal legislation in effect from 1994 to 2004.
*Clip = A stripper clip that is designed to load various rifles such as a SKS.

Q. I cant get the magazine to drop out without the mag button feeling like its going to break.
A. Take the base plates off the magazine. Then take a pot of boiling water.... drop the mag bases into the water for about 30-40 seconds. Dry the bases off and reinstall them on the magazine, load it up and give it a try. You will make the base plates more flexible by dehydrating them it wont cure anything but should help.

"You can use the same solvents on the polymer frame as you would use on the steel slide. However, some solvents, such as WD-40 could possibly leave behind a slippery residue. Your best bet would be to stick with the soap and water or simple green approach. That polymer is very resistant to most solvents. Try to stay away from the very powerful solvents, as all you will need to clean the polymer will be good cleaning oil. I hope this helps a little. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Q. HELP, my rear sight has fallen out, should I use Locktight to secure it? And if I do, how can I be certain it is in the right place?
A. (Compliments of snak-eater1) Use a spring-loaded center punch to put some dimples in the bottom of the dovetail, this will raise up a little metal. Then use a brass punch to drift the rear sight back into position and to adjust windage. Once in place, you MIGHT want to locktite it into place, although I have never needed to do so after using the center punch method.

Q. How do I clean my gun?
A. Unload the gun, Unload the gun. Unload the gun. Unload the gun.
Items needed to clean the gun are: Bore cleaner, barrel brush, patches, lint free rags, newspaper / gun cleaning mat, air compressor, lubricant, gun metal protectant, tooth pick, toothbrush, cotton swabs. Make certain the gun is unloaded and no bullets or laded magazines are even in the same room as you and the gun.
Your gun general comes with at coarse brush used to go in the barrel and also for the outside of the gun. It's nylon (or some other type of plastic) that is a lot less hard than the gun barrel. I use Brass on mine (lubricated with bore cleaner) and Ive never had a problem.
There are many "bore cleaners" out there to get rid of powder fouling in the barrel and around the moving parts of the gun, such as Shooters Choice, Hoppes#9, Blue Wonder's bore cleaner or Breakfree CLP.
Unload the gun.
Once you get the gun disassembled (read the manual), run the brush soaked in cleaner up and down the bore several times. Leave it, we'll get back to it later.
Next, clean the slide with the cleaner you just used to clean the bore. Soak a patch with it and rub all the metal parts, leaving them wet. You want to clean the top, bottom, and sides, of the slide. Every part you can and even some you cant see. Use the cotton swabs and toothbrush, toothpicks, patches for this. Pay particular attention to the "feed ramp", this is a part that must be clean and scratch free, as the bullet tips must slide along here to get into the barrel for firing.
Then clean the frame the same way. You won't need to worry as much about the plastic parts as they don't corrode like the metal parts will. Scrub all of the dirt out of the frame. Scrub down the metal parts and leave them wet. You really don't need to get the frame soaking in the bore cleaner.
Now back to the barrel. Run a patch soaked with solvent down the barrel. Next use a dry patch until the patch comes out clean. You may have to run a wet patch, dry patch, wet patch dry patch a few times, do this until they come out clean, The barrel is now cleaned, Put it aside as you wipe off the slide and frame.
If you have an air compressor, use it to dry off the gun after all the pieces are clean. If not, use a lint free rag.
Next, You will want to apply a lube to the moving parts of the gun, JUST A LITTLE. Notice I said lube, not oil. You can use oil, or you can use a product like Blue Wonder's DISORTEC XFR, DuPont Teflon, Gun Butter, something.
Wipe off any excess lube.
Make certain the gun is unloaded.
Reassemble; rack the slide a few times to work the lube into the moving parts.

Q. How long will the recoil spring assembly last? Should I change it after a pre-determined amount of shots fired?

In a previous post, someone said SA was very strict about changing your recoil assy after 2000 rounds, here is a reply from SA after inquiry about replacement . If the recoil assembly has worn prematurely, and is causing a problem with the function of the pistol, it will be covered under warranty. We do not have an actual round count as to when the recoil assembly will need to be replaced. This would be determined by the caliber of the pistol, the type of load being put through it and so on. There are many variables involved. It is warranted for function from the factory, but not if it has just been worn out. I have heard of many of them lasting well beyond 10,000 rounds. If you would like us to take a look at your pistol for you, we would certainly be happy to. Those recoil assemblies are available from us. They are available for purchase and cost $14 apiece. Q. What is the difference between regular ammo and + ammo?
A. Regular ammo has a given amount of propellent powder in it to make the bullet go out of the barrel at X speed. +P ammo has that same amount of propellant PLUS an extra amount, thus increasing the speed of the bullet. +P+ ammo has more propellant then the +P ammo, thus giving you a very fast bullet.
