Standardizing on Glock 9mm

541 Views 14 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Cuda66
I am wanting to standardize on Glock 9mm for my carry and home defense purposes, mainly for the mag compatibility. I have the 19X for home and sometimes carry, but want something just a bit smaller for EDC. I believe my choices are the Glock 26 and the Glock 19. I can get the MOS version for the 19. I can also get the slide milled for a red dot for the 26, at extra expense.

What opinions do you guys have on my idea? Which gun is more shootable? Accurate? Easier to EDC? Better all around gun?

Thanks,
Joe

They’ve also got the 43 and 43x which are around the 365/hellcat size I believe. Not a Glock guy, so can’t answer the question on what shoots the best. I e got an 80% 19 and have had nothing but problems with it, think I’ve finally got it figured out, but haven’t had time to shoot it since fixing it

If you want mag standardization, the G26 is as small as you can get (43/x/48 all use a different mag).

Gen 5 G26 has a MOS version available.
My Gen 5 G26 with factory Ameriglo Bold NS has been my #1 for several years now. To sound cliche, it punches above it's weight for accuracy and magazine versatility, and in spite of other competitive offerings I've had by Glock and other manufacturers, none of them have come close to dethroning it for my needs (G43X, P365, P365XL, P10 S, FN 509C).

The only thing it's sorely lacking is a proper light rail, for which I use a rail adapter by Recover Tactical for somewhat of a "Frankenstein's Monster" to use a TLR7A.

For other purposes I have a Glock 45 (also w/factory Ameriglo Bolds) with a spare G19.5 frame. Just depends on my mood which configuration I want to use if not the G26, but especially if I need to use my TLR1 HL.

I think I'd rather have complete non-interchangable mag than partially interchangeable mags.

That "21" round poop brown mag actually holds 19 rounds, not 21. FYI.

Yeah, I know. Was distracted when making that picture! Was thinking of the +2 extended magazine on my old P-09 MHS

I am not a Glock guy, but my father was carrying a G26 for quite a few years before he passed. It had a red dot at the end of the recoil assembly, and it seemed to work for him. He had Parkinson's but he would tear out the middle of the target with that laser dot. It worked for him.

Glocks fit my hand wierd, but I have a PCC that takes Glock mags and I may take a look at a G19 so I can interchange mags as well. It's a good idea, if you can pull it off.

Personally, I think having all matching mags is, well…silly.

First off, you can break stuff inserting an overlong/extended mag (eg, putting a G19 or 17 mag into a G26, etc) too forcefully—like you would under stress.

Second…as long as it’s fairly obvious that the mags are different, it shouldn’t be an issue.

Have you tested the 43X?
I have the 48MOS as one of my EDC’s. I am wanting to standardize on double stack mags, hence the question about the 19 and the 26. I am in Waxahachie, TX and there is a gun show here today and tomorrow. I plan to purchase one or the other today.

I own a 34, 17, 19 and 26. All my back up mags for defense type senarios are 17 rounders and I seat a mag like a wild man. Never hurt the pistol or mag......not had one become stiff to insert or remove.
Now I would imagine that if you employed a bodybuilder using a sledge hammer you could most p ossubly create rhe issue you described.

But before you go off an another what if senario, why do you think LEO agencies issue one platform? Magazine compatibility in the event an officer needs to share magazines and ammo with another officer.
And realistically, there is ZERO downside to standardized magazines across your carry platform.

I’ve seen overlong Glock mags inserted too hard and bust things plenty, more than once. It’s a real thing, and it doesn’t take a gorilla to do it.

And agencies issue the same model pistol, so the mags are all identical…

care to share any pics or videos......

never heard of this until now. I did however have to take a Sig 320 to a gunsmith because seating a mag aggressively. bent some kind of lever.....dold it two days later to a guy who had already had the same issue.
bit NEVER a glock.

Considering it was in training classes over a decade ago…no, no pics or videos. But it (iirc) it occurred slamming G17 mags without a spacer into a G19.
