Is the slide on the XD Bi-tones Stainless or coated metal?

So stainless steel can rust?

Actually, yes. It depends on the alloy mix of the SST. Certain stainless steel alloys will corode very rapidly in a moist, corrosive environement such as near an ocean. I've seen SST corrode completely away in less than a year in Key West.
