This is for all you Sig owners and lovers. I plan to add to my handgun collection (XDM and an XDS) either a Sig Sauer P226 Enhanced Elite or Elite Dark. The little bit of information out there states the difference between the two are the grips and the adjustable night sights. Anyone familiar with these two pistols? Are there any other difference between the two guns? I'm looking to add this to my collection in about a month or so. Your responses are greatly appreciated!

It looks like you get the E2-style one piece grips instead of the Hogue Aluminum grip panels, and you avoid the gimmicky adjustable rear sight on the non-Enhanced Elite Dark.

I'd say get them in your hands, and see if you prefer one grip style over the other. The sights will provide the same sight picture, but IMHO, the adjustable rear sights of the Elite Dark aren't that great when it comes to how they're adjusted. Hope this helps.

Jon...thanks for the feedback. I went over to the Sig forum to see about these two guns and from whatever been reading the adjustable sights and grips, on the dark elite, come loose after a few hundred rounds. I'm not about to spend a grand on a gun to have these issues. Both guns felt great in the hand. I went to the range today and they had an enhanced elite. The enhanced elite has a slightly better grip. My research is making me lean more towards the enhanced elite. I can't wait to get one...just don't want to make an impulse buy.

It's good that you're doing your research. I learned about the loosening grip screws myself when I went to the range yesterday. It actually cut my trip a bit short as I didn't bring the allen wrench needed to tighten them back down. I believe that the grips don't need to be messed with much at all, so cleaning up the threads and hitting them with some purple loctite would do the trick in keeping them secured. Glad you found an Enchanced Elite locally to check out. Now, find out where you can get what you want the cheapest, and go for it! :D

They're both "elite" series guns so you get the elite features, but between those 2 I'd take the Elite Dark and get the adjustable sights and the aluminum grips.

But, aside from an X5 I'd take the MK25 over any of the P226 lineup and I have an X5 and an MK25.

Either way, there's no wrong answer here. P226's are one of the greatest guns ever made and you'll love which ever one you get.

I wouldn't let someone on the Sig forum (of which I've been a member of too) talk you out of a gun because their grip screws came loose. It's a bit huge non issue as a spot of Loctite will fix that if it starts happening to you.

And I've has sights shoot loose on my P220 MSE and Sig fixed them for me no charge. I had a P220 dark elite with similar adjustable sights as I believe are on the Dark Elite and shot it for many thousands of rounds before selling it and I never had the sights shoot loose.

Just my 2 cents.

Sorry to hear your range trip was cut short...that sucks.

The range I go to has most of their Sig's going for $950...which is about the cheapest I've seen. I think I'm pretty much sold on the Enhanced Elite though...I think it will satisfy my wants in this gun. My dad has an MK-25; and hopefully by the next range trip he'll have the SRT kit installed so that I can get a good feel for what to expect with mine. Otherwise I'll have to see if they have one for rent. I'll keep you posted on the upcoming purchase, Jon!

True, Snaphook...you're right. I'm still comparing the two and still doing my research, but the sights issue, from what I'm reading, is very common. I like the thought of adjusting the sights, but at the same time, if the fixed sights have been zeroed in, then I should adjust to that. We'll see...I don't want to make it an impulse buy. But I appreciate your response! I'll let you know what I decide. Thanks again!

You're not going to make a bad call here, both are excellent guns in all respects. You're at the "which one tickles my fancy more" phase of the buying process, so go with what you like.

I just wouldn't let grip screws or sights complaints on one of the forums sway me. A) I don't think it's really happening much and B) Sig will fix the sights in a flash and it won't cost you anything even shipping if something goes wrong and the screws are fixed with Loctite.

Good luck in whatever you choose, great guns.

hmmm...didn't think about the Sig customer service, but yeah you're right. That's pretty much where I'm at with this purchase. I just gotta make sure, whatever I go with, to sneak it in the house without the wife knowing LOL!
