In gel through denim from 2 inch snubs:

Speer 135 +P GD at 840 fps, 13 inches/.55 caliber

CorBon 110 standard pressure DPX at 990 fps, 12/.64

Both are way better than anything else before this from snubs.

The Speer load from longer bbls tends to get too big and drop under 12 inches of penetration. That's a deal breaker for some folks.

In the .40 and 9mm the Standard for .40 and +p for the 9mm perform perfectly fine out of 3" barreled guns. These rounds just don't lose much velocity out of short barrels. They are tested in 4" barrels and are high pressure cartridges that hit peak pressure fast. Good for short barrels. The problem has been in the recent crop of sub 4" .45's. The .45 round was designed for a 5" barrel and is bg and slow. In th shorter barrels most .45 rounds won't expand with any certainty. Thus in a short .45 their is a need for special ammo. For the XD's I wouldn't worry about it.
