the same material, finish and quality.

I am talking about our HS/XD magazines.

Comparing the magazines that came with a recent
purchase of an XD, they just do not compare to the
'oldies'. Anyone else notice any magazine change
of any magnitude?

What are you thinking? Are the new better or worse? I have two of the hs 9mm ones and 2 40cal XD old ones. Have had a few feed issues but I have not been watching closely to see if it is only the 40 mags or with all. Some of the very new ones that I have seen look pretty nice with the two columns of quantity holes.

Tell me what’s rattling around up there. LET IT OUT MAN!

OK, to be very blunt about it! The newer magazines
do not appear to be as well made, such as finish and
material as the older magazines.

I have some of the old HS2K magazines that have been
through H & H (that's hell and high water) that do not
show any appreciable sign of mag slide wear or scratch
marks. As I said above, I notice that the newer mags
do not quite match up to the older mags. My sliding the
new mags into the mag well put big long scratch marks
on the finish, which has not happened on the older magazines,
thus prompting my post on the subject.

Run your finger up in the mag well and you will see why.Of three pistols I can feel a very small speck of plastic on the right side only and the mags show a very slight mark.To me the XD mags are the highest quality I have seen.Look at any other mfg.blued magazines and a lot of wear marks.Drop them on the ground at the range and get some dirt on them they will probaly get really bad looking.I wipe off any magizines or shells I drop.

Yea I have 5 Full caps for my XD40, I like the 2 orginal I got with the gun, plus one I bought afterwards, these are all with the 3 witness holes, then I got 2 more that have the bazilian witness holes and I don't like the fit, finish, and feel of those as much, needless to say you can figure out which ones I carry and which ones stay in the range bag.

Alright, here is another recent example of exactly what I
am talking about. Just look at the magazines in the latter
pix.

http://www.hs2000talk.com/viewtopic.php?t=22672

See all the stratches and mars and gouges on the mag
bodies. And this is a new machine that they belong to.
Not knocking the new owner, as the machine has not
changed, only the mags.

If they are new type mags which are going to be made by
MecGar for SA, I will say to SA, go back to the original
source of mag production. I don't like the so called new
mags and to me, they suck in comparison to the 'old type' mags.

I have many mags which are made by MecGar, all are
bluish, not chromed as the HS/XD mags are. These mags
have never given me any trouble. My beef is that the newer
mags, if they are made by MecGar, are surely going to put
egg on Mecgar's face in the short haul. None, ziltch of my
old mags, HS/XDs, have a scratch nor mar on them after
many years of use.

Come on SA, if this is the switch-er-roo that you plan on
pulling off, I for one am going to slam your ass every chance
that I get. The old mags hold up better and look one hellava
lot better. And MecGar, if you are listening up and are the
maker of the new type mags! You can do
a much better job than what is shown so far, so do it. SA, how
about getting your QC act together on these new type mags,
please.

Original mags are stainless, and non-magnetic.

Since we're on the subject of magazines, I've got a couple of questions/issues.

First, does anyone have an area about a third of the way up on the magazine that looks like several spots or peening? What's the cause of this?

Second, I somehow managed to get 13 rds of .40 in a 12 rounder this morning. The magazine swelled to the point that it wouldn't go into the magwell. I couldn't believe they flexed that much.

I guess I'm nit-picking the mags too much. All in all, I really have no beef with the XD mags. In fact, I haven't found any magazines that I like better than the ones that come with the XD's. I haven't been around the old HS mags, so I can't compare to them.

Why would you care if the mags scratch a little bit, that just means they fit well in the gun and don't rattle around, non-magnetic stainless is very soft metal and is very easy to scratch, if you want mags that don't scratch they would have to be chrome plated.
