I have never done competition shooting and i was wondering if there are rules related to changing out your barrel; I have an XD40 and for comp I would probly want to swap out for a 5" 9mm ported barrel. What's that going to do for my clasification?

Well, it wouldn't be legal in IDPA--ported guns are not permitted. And, if you replace the barrel in a Stock Service Pistol Division with a barrel of a different caliber, it moves to Enhanced Service Pistol Division.

In USPSA the ported barrel would put you in the Open Division with the race guns.
For IDPA the XD is shot in the Enhanced Division, and as Snake-eater said, ported barrels are not allowed in IDPA.

That's true, in IDPA, the XD will be in ESP, regardless of original or swapped caliber.
