I recently added a red dot to my Canik TP9SFx and love it. But for now I'm going to go without on my Hellcat. When I get used to the Hellcat maybe I'll change my mind.

I'm definitely in the pro-dot camp, especially for EDC guns, but I understand there's a lot of different opinions on it. At least with the OSP version, you're not making any permanent modifications (e.g. slide milling) that you can't undo if you change your mind. So I say go for it! If you don't like it, you can always put the cover plate back on and sell the dot.

I really, REALLY love the red dots..... but I am in the same boat as Padraig..... it's a small, compact, concealed carry gun. Kinda defeats the purpose to make it bigger. As it is, carrying every day in my normal attire makes it hard to conceal. Don't need any more lumps, bumps, or pointy things at my belt-line.

For open carry, bed-side, competition or anything else, absolutely yes.

EDC gun? What distance and at what cadence of shots are u training to engage a threat vs escape and evade?

21 feet and in, absolute threat coming at u, don’t need it. Ur point shooting in that scenario.

Gun can do it, but can u put multiple shots on target past 21 feet, at speed? If so, with irons, red dot may be of benefit.

Run a rmr on my CZ P10C EDC and love it. It’s really about the training. A red dot, in and of itself, won’t make u a better shooter/shot.

Another thing not being mentioned if your using a micro reddot those things take alot of practice to get use too. Bringing the gun up to picture with dot in place is very difficult. It takes a ton of practice to get use to it. I have a micro green dot on my xdsc9 and I'm gonna be taking it off. The reason why for me is transitioning between standard sights and the optic is very difficult. If I go a few days without practicing with the optic it's almost like relearning everytime. The difference in performance is not worth the cons. I'm still quicker with standard sights. The optic helped me be a little more accurate but at 10yards its minimal and speed is king.

I 100% agree with you that red dots do not automatically make someone a better shooter and that it comes down to training. But I don’t think training is any less important with iron sights. Red dots are by no means a magic solution.

I had never used a red dot on a pistol, but it seems that the tide is flowing that way. My eyes are also getting worse. So, I bought two Hellcat OSPs. One with a red dot and one with out. I have time with the non red dot and carry it. Now, time to put in the training with the dot.

What I like about the dot I got, is that I can still see my iron sights. Something you may want to consider. Hope this helps.

I have one on my XD-S Mod 2 9mm and the red dot doesn't make it any less concealable.
With the correct holster you can carry it as an EDC easily and comfortably. I carry my XD-S Mod 2 9mm 8 to 12 hours a day very comfortably. Most days with only a t-shirt hiding it.

I picked up a Vortex Vemon for my FN FNX-45 and before getting it I read an article about Red Dots and at the end of the article it was saying that if you have astigmatism you won't see a clear dot and that's true. last year I had cataract and corrective eye surgery and that made a big difference but since I have astigmatism the dot looks more like a fuzzy cotton ball so I took it off and it's inside my safe

I had a brief conversation with my eye doctor about red dots, strangely enough. With the way your eyes focus, a red dot is probably better for you, because it allows you to focus your attention on the target through your front sight instead of being obscured by it; because the dot moves your targeting to the same focal plane as your intended target.

I would guess that the majority of situations where a pistol was used in a defensive situation and caught on camera were probably low light or dark, which is when you most want to be absolutely sure your muzzle is pointing at the target and not a foot to the left.

If I change my EDC anytime soon, I will likely pick up another red dot for it. I just haven't installed one on my XDS because I have a custom leather holster with a retaining strap made to accommodate my Valkyrie 2 light, which I think edges out the need for a Red Dot on that particular pistol.

Put a red dot on my P09 first, in case it messed me up so bad I couldn't use the pistol with it. My EDC concealed is a P07 and I didn't want to mess that one up. That was 10 years ago.

I got the P09 back, went to the range, contacted the company that did the work, boxed up my P07 and sent it to them the next week. Got another red dot put on another P07 last year.

If I lose my glasses I can't even see the front sight. Seriously can't see it. Just not there. Without my glasses the dot in the RMR/Holoson is a fuzzy dot.

I can put a fuzzy dot on the target all day long.

I'm hesitant about a red dot on my tiny pistol, but am curious about the tiny green Viridian. Anyone with experience?
