I just sent for what is going to be my deer and field gun today. It is a Remington 870 Express Magnum.

Now, with that in mind...the current barrel on it is marked to shoot only 2 3/4" and 3" shells.

I have found a barrel for sale, that is from a Remington Super Magnum (can shoot 3.5" shells). If I mount that onto the receiver of my Remington Express Magnum, will I still be limited to 2 3/4" and 3" shells, or will it allow me to use the shoulder wrecking 3.5" shells as well?

I've seen it debated both ways, but after much reading on this forum my conclusion is that if there are folks that would have a solid answer, they are on this very forum. After all, you guys are the ones that are responsible for me being the proud owner of a Springfield XD-9 (which I freaking love, btw).

Thanks in advance for the input. It is very much appreciated.

You will still be limited to the 3" shells.
The receiver is the limiting factor. The ejection port is not long enough for the fired 3.5" hull to clear.

That ^

I have an Express Magnum, shoot it - enjoy it, but stick with the shells it was made for, as stated - it's not the barrel that's the limiting factor here.
