I just bought a XD .40 S&W Tactical and was wondering what the hollow
area w/ a slight groove is that is located to the underneath and rear of the pistol grip where you insert your clip/magazine.

The manual doesnt have any referance to this. Just curious.

Also, I got a bright orange clip of some sort. What is this for? A slide block?

Welcome to the forum!!

The bright orange thingy is used to indicate an empty chamber. Springfield puts it there for shipping.

The hole just behind the magazine is just that. A hole. They make plugs for them if you don't like it.

Go here for some of the accessories.

Well welcome aboard dropbrass
the orange clip is so you know it is not loaded pull slide back insert in barrel and gently help slide go home.
If you dont like the hole go to Pistolgear.com they sell a instert to help your mags go in easier and hide the hole as far as I know no one has made a plug for it YET....

You can also use the search function on this board almost every topic has been covered ....
