Is the locktight a suggestion or is it needed? I'm just hesitant to do anything to permanent in case I have to move the sights and do some fine tuning.

The meps I installed didn't need loctite there were a pretty tight fit.

I don't have any on mine and they have been solid.

I (with the help of Ichy) have installed 2 or 3 sets of sight on XDs....We used loc-tite one 1 I think, the others were a snug fit without it. We filed the front site down to get a better fit (dawson fiber optics) and used loc-tite just to be sure they didn't go anywhere.
