I had one professionally installed in my XD40 Service. Very stiff and sometimes when inserting a magazine, 'won't engage the mag (won't lock it in). This is not good. Feedback/advice appreciated. Thanks. :?

I'd say go to the source, contact Scott (Old School) or Rich directly.

I had the same problem when I got mine.

Add some lubrication, and press the button for about 2000 times, and it will be just like the old one.

All you have to do is wear it out a little. What I did was just kept on pressing it with magazine out while watching TV. After a couple shows it worked like a charm.

That's exactly the cure it seems. A bit of polishing probably would have helped before it was installed.

Sorry for the delay. Perhaps breaking it in will help, however, I have not heard of this before. Atkamano's suggestion sound like a good one. Rich would be a good option to call, should you have trouble with it.

With all due respect, Rich was not of much help. He seemed to think the part itself may have been defective (e.g., bad cut) when I emailed him a few weeks ago. I am a little bit surprised with that info as it appears the part just needed to be "broken in."

Call me nuts but I prefer that parts be broken in by the factory in this case, not by the consumer. Additionally, when I sent my XD to Rich for a trigger job way back when, I asked Rich (Canyon Creek) to check the extended safey because it was very stiff. Nothing came back on the work order indicating whether he did or not.

I would have taken a Dremel and flet tip with polishing compound to the part or lightly sanded if I knew there was going to be a problem. It's still pretty stiff compared to mag release buttons on my Sigs, Glocks, etc. but it does do what it's supposed to do. I'll give this item a C+. I wonder if the BarSto version is an improvement. Don't get me wrong, I think Rich and Canyon Creek are top notch. He does one heckuva of a trigger job on the XD. I just wouldn't rush out to get his extended safety.
