Looking at a EFK 5" .40 ported barrel for my .40 Service...

Primary reason is to make it "Recoil Friendly" for the CFO in the house...

Questions:

1) Is the flash a problem in lowlight?
2) How much velocity do you really lose?? I've seen 3-5% posted on other boards...
3) Any spring weight or other changes recommended?
4) what else do I need to know??

Thanks! And Mele Kalikimaka!

1. Bad for low light. Can temporarily blind you if shooting at night.
2. Hard to clean residue in porting vents.
3. Can damage front night sights.
4. Reduced recoil is marginal help.
5. You don't want to "shoot from the hip" with a ported barrel.

Just my $0.02. Others may disagree.

For those shooting sports that permit porting, it's a good thing--recoil is reduced (well, redirected). For most any other purpose, there are more disadvantages than advantages. If recoil is that much of a problem, you are better off going to a lesser caliber.

So... I'm not hearing a lot of positives here... It sounds like I should use the HS2K and work her up to the XD40...

See... This why I like this forum..

Noobies don't get creamed, they get honest advice..

The firesights aren't installed yet, just looking at options...

Thanks all!!

Depends on usage. For target shooting it's fine, but in CQB and nighttime situations it's a negative. I use a variation to the C.A.R. system for tactical shooting where the pistol is very close to the body and porting would be painful getting a blast to the face.

Maybe I should post this as a new post so others will notice.

Verm do that.

Personally I didn't need to see this crap. Now I'm gonna go join that gun range west of here for 50.00 a year and my poor wife is gonna have to get a second job to support my gun habit. Then I'll have to sell the kid's... WAIT! I don't have any kids. Dam! I might have to get a job. BUMMER! :D YEEE HAAAA! let's go have some fun...

I have night sights on my XD40 V10. Mostly because I can just wipe the front lens of without having to dig through a bunch of paint.

Would that blind you?

Nice pic, and yes it would...

The Surefire X200 on the rail would still help me to see SOMETHING... I hope...
