Couldnt find an introduction forum so I am doing it here. Name is Chris I am 19 and am seriously considering getting an XD40 this weekend with my tax return dough. This forum is awesome and Ive already had quite a few laughs especially from that Mall Ninja! I have a few questions about making my purchase though. My father will be purchasing it for me as I am of course under age to purchase. The only thing I dont want to do is register this firearm. Ive checked state laws and they say that it is not required for any firearm to be registered. Just a simple backround check and thats it. My question is do I have to register my firearm if I buy it at a dealer or is it just a backround check? And the same question for gunshows because I would prefer to get it at a gunshow since Ive never been to one and there is one this weekend. This will be my first handgun and the only handgun Ive ever shot is my dads S&W .357 revolver which was quite scary, lol. Ive always been fascinated by how the semi-autos functioned and looked and I will probably kiss and hug this gun for a long time. Thanks!!!

I am pretty knowledgeable when it comes to guns but I dont know jack about ammo. Im looking for something with the most power and highest FPS speed. I just want it basically for the coolness of having the "best" ammo. I see that smaller grains go faster but Im guessing the bigger grains pack more punch? Im sure you can all see that Im just some newbie kid gettin a gun but I assure you as I have assured my parents that I will be very responsible with this gun and will always practice safety first. Good thing there are no kids around my house xcept me so I dont have to be too locked up. Thanks guys!

I was originally going to go for a .45 of anything but I thought since it was my first gun I would go for something that wouldnt "hurt" me. Plus Ive heard a lot of good things about the. 40 S&W and I cant wait to go shooting with my bro who is thinking about getting a Glock 33 in .357. But, are you able to answer any of my questions? As far as laws go?

as far as I know, you cannot even possess the handgun. Basically, it will be his handgun that you can shoot. He will have to pay the money and his name will have to go on the ATF forms, and if registartion is required, his name will have to go on the registration.

Also, if you find handguns "scary", You definitely need to go through some safety courses on firearms handling. Hunters safety doesnt count.

Well no I dont really think they are scary at all. I love everything about them! It was just my first time shooting a handgun when I used my dads .357 and I didnt have any ear or eye protection whatsoever. Heck I was only like 15 too. I have a 12 guage that I love to shoot so I doubt this could possibly be any different. I understand your remarks on my maturity but we all have to start sometime and I think I am at a good point in my life to be responsible enough to own one. My remarks in that post were mainly just to come off as friendly not really childish.

I think of the available rounds in the XD, the .357sig is the most "bad-ass".

I forgot where but I read an article about the .357 sig and it said that it had about the same stopping power as a 9mm. Thus I wanted something a little more powerful but I wouldnt know so I figured I couldnt go wrong with the. 40. Glock Talk? Aside from what seems to be my immature attitude I would like to get my questions answered. You guys havent a thing to worry about, Im am not at all careless when it comes to guns. I just like to express freely the great joy I get from guns.

I would suggest some independent research on your part, CmptrN3rd. Most of the information you need won't be found in a few posts on a recreational gun forum.
The "cool factor" should not be the priority of your search.

Actually now that I recall that, It was just regarding the penetration. Im sure the .357 packs more of a punch. Still I think I will opt for the .40 s&w. Im pretty much decided on what I want to get and as far as ammo goes, well I plan to go to a nearby range to see if I can possibly test fire the XD before I purchase it to get a feel for it and I can try out different ammo. Thanks for the help guys! I look forward to a hopefully welcomed stay. And no I didnt hear about that thing on Liberia. Was that an attack against me or did you just want to converse about it? Just wondering.

Hmm just came back from a gunshop who had the Intratec HS2000. I like the XD much better even though they are pretty much the same. The price was $498 for all calibers except the 45 GAP which I didnt ask about. What should I get guys? Its either the .40 or the .357. The .40 would probably be best as far as ammo costs and probably has less recoil. Yea I think I'll get that one. $498 seems a bit high though. There is a gun show starting Friday in Chantilly, VA that I will probably check out first. Im bound to find a much cheaper one there.

Are you saying that you want to make sure no ones name is associated with this pistol? You said that it isn't necessary to register the pistol, but ask if it has to be registered? :?:
A store, private sale, gunshow, if you want to make sure it's legal go through the proper channels.
Maybe wait untill you are 21 and put the responsibility of owning your pistol where it belongs, on you and not your Dad. :| sorry if I sound cold, but what you wrote is all I have to go by.

OK just nevermind everything I asked and said in this thread. The reasons I wanted no name associated with this gun arent for criminal purposes whatsoever. If I told you guys the real reason why, you would think Im even more insane than you probably already do. What matters is Im getting this pistol this weekend and thats all there is to it. Goodbye.
