I don't know what SA's position is, but you sure can run +P ammo through any XD without a problem. And if you load some of that Extreme Terrorist Thermonuclear Shock Ammo in your Subcompact 9mm you're all set to go 1,000 lb. Wild Russian Boar Hunting! Just make sure you sneak up on him while he's asleep and unload a magazine straight up his right nostril.

I have fired about 50 rounds of Speer 124gr +P Gold Dots through my XD9 Sub and see no ill effects whatsoever.

As with any firearm, high pressure ammunition will accellerate wear. I would not go out and run 5000 rounds of +P through anything I own but a few rounds to test functionality and to carry as defense ammo is different.

I've got a newbie question. If ammo is +P, is it marked on the box as such (+P) or do you have to know what grain and/or brand of ammo is +P. I haven't shot any of this type of ammo through my XD9, but I would like to try some rounds just to see if it feeds it OK. I've seen 147 grain and 124 grain ammo, but it's not marked as +P on the box, so I'm assumming it is "regular" loads.

typically the +p is marked on top of each brass cartridge.
i shot several hundred +p through my xd9subcompact.
six different brands, mostly 115 and 124 grain, few 90.
too much muzzle flip for me.
i'll stick to regular loads and shoot more accurately.
with xs big dot sights.
i'll re-acquire the target more rapidly.
imho.

I can't feel a noticeable differance between fed hydrashok 147gr, and speer gold dot +p 124gr.

bumping an old thread.. :D
Does anyone know the SA thoughts on firing +P+ in a 9mm Service XD? (In the SA response above he says that +P+ might be "too hot" for the subcompact..but doesnt mention the 4".)

I am not going to rush out and buy it right now, but dont want to be standing there looking at ammo later on, wishing I had asked this question. 8)

I thought +P+ wasn't an official SAAMI spec, and therefore doesn't mean much beyond "Something more hotly loaded than 9mm +P". As such, I can't see Springfield saying that it's safe to fire +P+ (Which could be +++P+++).

Maybe I'm wrong though. It's happened.

I'd say, if you need more power, get a .40 or .357sig. :)
