A few hours ago I stopped by the gun store down the street from my house. While looking through their handgun case I of course turned my attention to the XDs. They had an OD XD-40 and a black XD-9sc.
For the XD-40 they wanted something like $530, and for the XD-9sc they wanted $490. That seems a little high from what the few people Ive talked to at the shooting range I go to say they paid for theirs. Just wondering if any of the Nor Cal members had any suggestions on a good dealer with good prices.
Oh and one thing I found odd was that they had the XD-9 Labled as an XD-40 on the tag, and on the info section it said "Caliber- 9mm" even though it is marked XD-9 on the slide.
Thanks in advance for any replies(exept the "Just move out of Kalifornia" ones, that is not an option at this point in my life)
Thank you for any help

Yep, my local dealer here has one XD40 in his display, $529. The rat bastard justifies it by "throwing in a free extra mag and holster", which is a free Springfield promotion anyway. I think he is relying on every one of his customers being stupid.

A dealer price on guns is just about common knowledge. In the end, a dealer makes very little when selling a gun for $425, even $529, when considering the risks and overhead involved. It only take one lawsuit to put you out of business and force you to go bankrupt, insurance or not.

Perhaps California's litigation history & or taxation practices causes this? I am merely speculating, I have no idea.

I don't know what the wholesale cost is, but I see differences in excess of $100 when I compare MSRP to some prices I see on Gunbroker. Kinda makes me think that a dealer is making out alright when he can fetch MSRP.

This country is a free enterprise country. Prices are not fixed. I recall someone I met over 20 years ago was from Australia spending time in the USA lamenting the fact that food and other essential commodities were price fixed in his country but not here and it drove him crazy that Safeway or Albertsons kept changing prices each week for their weekly sales.

A year or so ago, I was looking for a CZ75B . I had read that the going price was in the $350 to $400 range. I stopped by one shop and they were selling one for $600. They mentioned that they serviced what they sold and would provide a lifetime warranty (that is, as long as they stayed in business!). Well, I left their shop, went down the road, checked out another gunshop which was selling them for $400...ended up buying from a small shop near where I live for $385.

Prices sometimes has no bearing on the size of the store...but generally, the busier shops which take a fair amount of trade in used guns...have the best prices. I think they have enough turnover in both used and new that they do OK even though they don't list prices as high as others....

I paid $419, no sales tax in Oregon, so that was the price out the door.
(Although I did have to buy a $60 rapala fishing reel for my Gal-Pal... that's the price of doing business....)

I've seen the tac models as high as 560. I paid 515 out the door for my tac9 simply because i was tired of waiting. I may have been able to find it cheaper if i'd felt like driving around a couple more eves, but with gas prices as high as they are and my time being worth more to me, I was willing to pay it.

Sale Price $542.78

Davidsons Inventory Addt'l Fees $40.45

Tax $46.14

Sub Total $629.37

(Less Deposit) ($124.50)

Balance $504.87

this is the price being charged in Northern California
Damn, even here in So. CA that sounds high. A Turners Outdoorsmen ( not always the best pricing) sells the service and SC for $469 plus all the fees. Every couple weeks you will see one or the other for sale at $40 off. Anyone up there selling a used XD? I am trying to trade my XD9 for someones XD40 but to no avail.

XD's are increasing in price every day. They were priced to make a splash in the market. now they are becoming popular, and the expected price increase is following. I fully expect them to be the same price as the glock in the next couple years.
