So I got the free XD-gear holster with my XD-40 Service and although the holster is very comfortable it is not very good for open carry as it is easily covered up by a jacket or even an untucked shirt. Since I don't have a CCP yet I need to be sure that the weapon is out in the open when I am hunting. I tried a thigh holster and found them too low as the weapon sort of flops around on my leg when I am walking. So I need something between a thigh holster and the high paddle holster. I would love to hear some suggestion.

Thanks

Just duct tape it to the center of your chest. Personally, I would never carry even in the open if I didn't have a CCL. Too much of a "grey area" there, and I wouldn't want to have to defend myself in court over it. When it comes down to it, it would be your word against an arresting officer's. Too much hassle for me.

Good point and if you got caught with a ducktape holster you would risk losing all of your guns based on mental health issues.

you could just put the fuzzy velcro on your gun...and the hard velcro on your chest...space age stuff, that velcro is. :-D

in reality, safariland has some good holsters that should sit lower than the belt, but not necessarily on the thigh. they also make a pretty good thigh holster...although i'm not sure if they make it for the XD or not. i know bladetech makes a good thigh holster. ( i have one )

beyond this...i can't tell ya.

:-D

You arn't going to like the price probbably, but you might want to look at the Blade Tech DOH (it sits a bit lower than the belt line) as well as their other belt attachements which ride higher (paddle, tek-lok). Also, their thigh holster i've found, doesn't flop around like the cheap one i first bought for hunting. The blad-tech actually has a molded piece which serves as a backing to rest the holster against your thigh as well as nylon strech material in the straps that go around your thigh for a nice secure fit all the time.

i'd recomend ordering thru pistol-gear.com if you are going to order blade-tech gear, the wait is significantly less than ordering direct.
