Another oops at our public range. A brand new Ruger model Old Army stainless black powder revolver blew up. The owner had a R and D cylinder conversion kit that enabled this percussion revolver to fire .45 Colt ammunition. The first round blew up taking several other rounds in the cylinder at once. The cylinder was reduced to 4 or 5 large parts. There was still a live round jammed in a chamber of a cylinder part.

The revolver frame seems to be OK. It's a basic Blackhawk known to be pretty solid.

But the cause appeared to be reloads and most likely too much fast burning powder in the .45 Colt.

A near by shooter took fragments to his leg. Pretty deep gash, nasty bleeding and an immediate trip to see his MD. The Ruger owner was unharmed.

Sorry no photos this time.

Good to hear no one got seriously hurt. I did not know Ruger made a percussion revolver bases on the Blackhawk. That's a gun I wouldn't be shooting, those blackpowder revolvers are terrifying.

the only terrifying about them is a negligent/stupid shooter.

Sad story for the pistol. Reloading isn't for the foolish.
