On Bass Pro Shops Making Concealed Carriers Check Their Guns at the Door - Gun News at Guns.com

Interesting article, lots of comments, most did not read the article. Personally, I am always CCing when I've gone to Bass Pro, I've never seen any signs posted saying that weapons are prohibited or that lawful carry is prohibited. If they did, then I would no longer shop there. Unless there is a sign, then this should not be an issue. If you are CCing then no one should know. Now open carry is different. Still, you'd think that they would not have an issue with their patrons carrying the very products they sell...

UPDATE, See Post #30

Follow-up: Bass Pro Shops responds to Guns.com Editorial (and publishes concealed carry policy online)

Rarely do such issues make any sense whatsoever. Lots of sheep sell guns to the sheepdogs to protect them from the evil wolves. In the process, they hold their nose and act like they are passing a dirty diaper.

OP: I have never noticed any signs either. If they are there, they are not very obvious, I know that.

That is what it is like buying a gun at Walmart. It was strange being walked out of the store by a manager, who only gave me what I had just purchased when we reached the parking lot. Felt like I was being kicked out.

I purchased a couple guns from the one around here. They do carry it all the wat to the front door for you. I really think it's more of a liabilty/insurance issue. There is no sign saying you can not conceal and I really don't think they have a problem with it. Concealed is concealed. As usual, don't ask, don't tell.

Is that standard procedure for Gun purchases? I was "escorted" out after I picked up my Sig 516 after I had it transferred there from an online seller. I was so excited to get my AR that I did not really think about it till you mentioned it. I mean really, If a person wanted to do harm, after they get escorted out, they can simply load up in the parking lot and walk back inside...

They do that at Scheel's too. But then, it's not like we can CC here anyway:rolleyes:

If you check I think you will find that you have to check you gun if you are bringing it in for service. You do not have the check your gun if you are conceal carrying.
We ran into that issue at the local Bass Pro affiliate, and this was how the clarified it.

The walk up to the front does not just apply to guns. My local Wally world does it with high dollar electronics as well. When Grandma Commando at the front door sees a walmart employee with the customer, they know the item was paid for back at the electronics dept. Big R does it with ammo as well. It's more about loss prevention than "I don't like people buying Plasma TV's"

Cabela's has a similar sign. Concealed means concealed. If I'm taking it for service or trade, that's different.

Are you sure it's not just guns being brought in for service or trade in a case that need to be "secured"?

I walked in to Springfield Bass Pro just the other day as I have many times open carrying. Nothing was said, a week ago I walked in, checked 2 handguns in my range bag with a third on my hip open carry. Nothing was said and I didn't have to check it. As for other stores I can not speak on the issue but the Springfield store doesn't seem to mind. I also CCW carry in the store but that seems null and void since they allow open carry.

Most outdoor stores Ive been in allow lawful CC. However everytime I have bought a gun there I was escorted by a store employee carrying the gun. I asked about it and they explained it was for loss prevention because someone could easily slide a long gun down their pants and obviously stealing a pistol would be way easier. Your on private property anyways so its their rules. Just like when I go visit my parents my mom is not big on guns so when I get to their house out of respect my gun comes out and goes into my bag in my room.

In WI if a company refuses CC they must post a min. 3x5" label at every entrance. They are then liable for providing your safety. (last I heard. WI is continuously updating the CCW laws)

Illinois Bass Pro refuses to sell hand gun ammo to WI residents because of WI passing CC last year. I refuse to buy from them ever again!

That is one of the most stupidest, saddest, believable things I have ever heard.

Sent from my NSA spy satellite.
