Haven't been around much lately but I wanted to say hi to Ed and Frenchy and some of those other names I remember. I also want to ask some of the older members if they remember a problem with HS2K or early XD extractors?

There is a discussion going on over a Frugal Squirrel concerning this issue. I seem to remember some guys having extraction problems with Win White Box 9mm ammo but I don't remember the HS or XD ever having a problem with broken extractors.

I know ejectors were susceptable to breaking back when we were slamming home our homemade hi-cap mags.

Any comments?

BTW, I still have my 2 Gen 1 HS2Ks and an XD40. I can't even estimate how many rounds have been through those HS2000s.

Zip,

I don't remember the extractor problem happening until the early days of the XDs. I still have my HS2000 Gen II with thousands of rounds put through it and I have never had the first extractor problem - or any other kind of problem for that matter.

As best as I can remember there were no real extractor problems with the HS pistols and as of late I haven't heard of any problems with any of the XDs.

My best guess is that most of the XD extractor troubles came in the first 12 to 18 months after Springfield took over.

I've never shot much Win White box. My choice was always CCI Blazer for range ammo.

I've never used any magazines except HS2000 or XD factory production. I do have a couple of the early .40 mags that I use for "hi-cap" nines.

Good to see you swing by occasionally.

Good to see you zip. I still have those mags
that you sold me and they work just as they
should. I still have my first HS2K also in Gen. 1.

Here is a search on one extractor item, there were
a bunch, just type in extractor-

The search on the ejector brought up many posts.

If I recall, Railroader was about the first person to
really tackle the extractor problem. The HS2K belonged
to another forum member, Tony I believe. The extractor
worked for awhile after Railroader did his magic by
bending in the claw to make for better extraction and bowing out
the middle of the extractor for more pressure exertion. Of
course, WWB was shot by most shooters back then and
the white box ammo was under great suspect.

I wound up with that firearm and sent it into SA for the
fix. A new type extractor was installed which solved the
problem. Here is a pix of the old and the new extractors -

The newly beefed up extractor seemed to solve that problem. WWB
ammo was back in vogue.

The ejectors did start giving us problems when a lot of people jumped
on the hi-cap mag wagon when we found out that we could use the
Beretta mags by just opening the latch hole just a mite by filing or
dremeling it bigger. As you mentioned, people caused the ejector
problem by jamming 'homemade' mags without a protective base
sleeve. Someone later designed a sleeve, I believe Ajames, which
worked on the modified mags. James did a great job, but that 'invention'
went by the wayside as the 'ban' sunset about then.

Come on back to see us, the forum has really grown.

See you over at the Squirrel. I been a member over there since way
back before Y2K.

I bet Frenchy jumps in on this to help my memory out a bit.

Hi guys use to post as Airshooter. It has been a while. Anyone remember the first "extremely delicate extractor tool" call a 2x4 ?

Yes I do. I believe that was about the time that
my 'Wiggle Meter" was being passed around to test
the wiggle on the vibratory effect the 2X4 was having
on the HS2K when it took such a whoop!

Zip, hope I'm not hogging your bandwidth, and
apologize if I am, but it is good to see old friends
again and recall the good ol' days. Frenchy, where
are you?

Ahhh yes!...The infamous "Wiggle Meter"...

Hey zip...it's wonderful to hear from you again. What do you think about the ACP announcement?
I really can't add anything that Ed hasn't covered. If I remember...The Gen.1's didn't suffer from this problem nearly as much as the 2's and 3's. Mine has way in excess of 10,000 rounds, and the extractor still looks pretty good.
I hope you're planning to make yourself more available to the forum. We can always use the sage expertise for these youngins'.

Since Frenchy made the "youngin" comment and I qualify I have a question;

How can I tell if I have a early XD that might have the "wimpier" extractor?

I'd been having FTE problems and sent the XD into the factory and they "tuned" the extractor and it's worked flawlessly since. I'd like to know if I might have one without detail stripping the thing (learning how is on my to do list I swear). Thanks.

P.S. Ed Ely: in the pic of the old and new extractor which is old and which is new?

The one on the left is the old one.
