WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!
OK, with that said, I'm new XD 9 Tactical owner, and just put my first 200 rds though my XD. And yes, WOW!
Me and a buddy(Beretta 96) were preparing for our clubs first IDPA match this Saturday(19th) and out of the box, this thing kicks ass! My buddy is a fair shooter and I used his 96 last year and loved it. But, now, even he was thinking of dumping his Beretta!!
The XD was a little stiff at first and getting use to that trigger was kinda weird. We shot at various ranges, 1yd to 20yds?, and the XD was great, it makes a couple of average shooters look prety good. I took a pic of the second target with differnt color marking dots so its EZ to tell who hit where. Will post later, its on an old fashiond film camera and we still have 18 pics to go, I know take more gun picks, but somehow I dont think my wife shares my same enthusiasm for gun pics. I know some wise guy on the forum is gonna say we used a shotgun, but we were doing draws from concealed holster and from cover, and other things we think the RO might hit us with. Besides, I not claiming to be a Master Marksmen. Anyway, out of the box the XD was a joy to shoot!!
Oh yeah, I used 100rds CCI Blaser Aluminum, 50 Seller&Bellot, and 50 WWB. I had one fail to fire using the S&B, about 70-80 rds into my first warmup. 50 CCI-50 S&B-50 WWB-50 CCI was my order of fire.
Looking forward to the first match of the season

How did you first competition go? Where you allowed to use your Tactical in the contest? I thought I saw somewhere that the 5" barrel was not allowed.
Also did you come up with a answer why you had a failure to fire with the one Sellier and Bellot round from your first firings?

Hello hobocircus,
Yes, all went well for our clubs first IDPA match of the season. I think the match director and company had a little cabin fever,(I live in North Dakota) the overall course of fire used a lot of ammo! Several shooters (including me) had to scruonge up some more ammo. I used 158 rds total. But it was all good.

The XD worked with out any problems. Yes, the XD 9 Tactical was legal and from what I understand is legal for IDPA sanctioned matches. The gun itself worked fine, but I think there was a fair amount of "operator error" I missed quite a bit but I was also shooting faster than I ever have before. I shot one stage with the fastest time, but I shot the rest of the stages with a great deal of mediocrety! Even dropped my mag during a tactical reload!!!

As for the first fail to fire, I dont know. I looked over the case after I cleared it from the chamber and it looked fine, no dented primer. I dropped it into the breech manually and it went bang with no problem. From what I've read it sounds like 1-2 malfunctions may be normal during a break in period. Overall, I have 350 rds total through my XD and had only one malfunction, seems ok to me. I also saw guys at the match with much more expensive guns having jams and fail to fire as well.

There was one other guy with an XD, a .40 Service and he seemed to have no problems either(I scored higher). It was a great day for the XD, faily new gun so we drew some attention. There was a wide array of guns used, Ruger(97?) in .45, Beretta 96, several GLocks, several 1911's in various calibers and so on. One 1911 was in 9mm, and man is that guy fast! In ESP he was first and I was second. However, he shot 105.?? and I was 166.28!! Since the climate here in ND/Northeren Minnesota sucks this tme of the year, we just shot at steel silouettes, just bangin' and clangin'.

Had a blast and I really like my XD!
