It looks like heavy copper residue to me. Have you fired it? Did it remain afterward? Another thing it could be is that copper based lubricant/protectant that is used on firearms. I can not think of the name of it, although I have a jar around here somewhere. I know from experience that when used on steel, it works very well and is a pain to remove the copper colored residue.
