Just bought a lightly used XD45 Tactical from a friend, thinking about getting a light for it.
I've looked (on-line) at Surefire, Insight and Streamlight versions, any practical advice from owners/users?

I dont have the .45tac but i have shot the compact. It was a great gun, very accurate. As for advice, i'd say practice, practice, practice and get very familiar with the weapon. The .45tac ACP will be my next purchase, also welcome to the forum.

If you're referring to experience with lights, I've got a Streamlight TLR-1 on my 45 tac. It's bright enough, light enough, and easy to use. I really like it, and the price was pretty good too. I have a surefire light i use once in a while on my duty weapon, can't remember the model. It's great too. I think the price was a lot higher than the TLR-1

+1 on the TLR-1. They are better lights out there, but you are going to pay the price for them. If you are looking for something good that will not break the bank, then the TLR-1 is great.

Grats on the new XD, and welcome to the forum.

Have you shot the XD yet? How do you like it? I would love to try an XD in .45.
