I heard a rumor Springfield was going to do new finishes for the XD. The finish was suppose to be similar to the Glock. And after seeing the abuse you can put a Glock finish thru I wouldn't mind getting mine done. The cost is suppose to be half price or less for current XD owners.

Has anyone heard anything to confirm this?

I am not questioning you hearing that so don't take this the wrong way. But, I'd sure be interested in knowing where you heard that??? Rumors about this fine piece of gunnery fly rampant. It is hard to determine what the reliable sources are, but this is a great forum to seive through the rumors!
