I just purchased my first handgun and I chose the XD-9 as my newbie gun of choice. 8) I've been reading a lot of posts on this forum and have gathered a lot of good advice about this handgun. My brother showed me how to break it down and clean it as well as given some solid pointers about grip, stance, and so forth. I like the feel of the XD-9, it feels good in my hand. It came with factory mounted Trigon night sights which are also very nice. If anyone has any good tips about maintanence or performance I would love to hear them. Are there any things in particular about this model handgun that I should be aware of? Any input would be appreciated....thanks in advance.

Good choice (any XD), and welcome to the forum.

Shoot, shoot and shoot some more. Get a good feel for the gun. Try several different brands of ammo. Most XDs have no problems with their appetites, your job is to feed them (they seem to stay hungry). As the other's have stated, there is plenty of good insight and information right here if you have questions, or problems.
