Ok,
Shot my XD40 for the first time on Sunday and then shot again today. Consistantly, the next to last round will not feed and jambs up the gun. I noticed this is not a problem if only 5-6 rounds are loaded in the magazine. Thease are factory hi-cap mags fresh out of the package and I only stuffed them with 10 rounds (all factory ammo from Speer)as my thumbs count not force any further rounds in the mags. One of two actions will clear the weapon, a good bump on the back of the slide or racking the slide will clear the round. In one instance, the trigger functioned out of battery so that the firing pin struck the primer lightly at about a 12 o'clock position, but did not fire. When the round was recycled, it fired normally.

Accuracy for my XD40 is excellent, but functioning is causing me some concern.

Anybody have any ideas?

Leave the mags with 10 rounds in them for a night or so, then push 2 more in and let them sit for a couple days. It might clear it up but it might not. The other thing to check would be the mag lips to see if they have spread apart any. I don't know the specific measurements but there used to be a pic around (GRRR @ Hacker).

I loaded up the mags just after making the initial post, plan a trip to the range on Wednesday after returing home.

I disassembled one of the mags an was surprised to find a hollow follower, thought these mags had solid followers. Does anybody have a solid follower in thier factory mags?

Had exact same problem with my XD40 service. I thought it might be the weather ( -5 deg. the day I shot ) sent away for some dry lube for the slide rails but now I'm thinking that may not be the problem. I loaded 12 rnds. in both mags ( not easy to do ) it will be several days before I can get back to the range I'll let you know what happens.
