I've been a shooter since 1991. I started out with a pre-10 M&P very much like this one: http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp182/ScottJ175/IMG_9855.jpg
I later traded that on a 686 which I later traded on a 629 Classic. I was actually crazy enough to CCW that 6.5 inch monster. Hoslterless, butt forward, IWB. I was much thinner then: http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp182/ScottJ175/Me629VW.jpg
I finally decided in May of 1992 to get something a little more realistic for CCW and bought a SP101. To this day it is probably my most frequently carried piece: http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp182/ScottJ175/Gear007.jpg
It does split time with a NAA Guardian .380 (no pics of it) I picked up in 1998 after I finally made peace with the auto pistol. Prior to then I only owned revolvers other than a Ruger Mark II. Every auto I'd ever tried always shot to the right for me while I was dead on with revolvers. But I had never given a 1911 a try so I picked one up at a gun show and mastered shooting autos as well as my wheelguns: http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp182/ScottJ175/DSC_2355.jpg
Shortly after that I got busy and had shot less and less often. Finally 2008 came and I realized I was getting range time on average of once a year (down from roughly once a week way back when I first became a shooter). I decided to change that. I took advantage of living in the boonies and being able to safely have a pistol range in the back yard as well as got out to the public ranges some.
In 2009 I had the opportunity to buy a Glock 19 from a co-worker looking to sell. The first purchase I'd made in about 10 years and my first 9MM (I used to deride the cartridge). That set off a sort of collection expansion spree I've been on ever since. I added a CZ 75B as my next 9mm and then a S&W Sigma because I couldn't resist the rebate. In early 2010 I sold the Glock to fund purchase of a Garand.
The story of how I became a XD owner is sort of interesting. I got in to IDPA this past March. Being true to my revolver roots I started out with my beloved model 66: http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp182/ScottJ175/66-3.jpg I also shot my 28-2 some: http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp182/ScottJ175/DSC_1661.jpg
But I know IDPA is an autopistol's game and found that I shoot the CZ the best of all the ones I've tried.
The same friend I bought the CZ from was looking to thin his herd some more and let me try his XD-9 Service. I found I could dump the magazine shooting almost as quickly as the slide returned to battery and keep them all in a 5 inch circle from 7 yards using a cast 115gr handload of mine over 3.8 grains of Bullseye.
My shooting buddies that day told me I need to buy that gun. I resisted the urge for about 3 months then I got SWMBO to let me add it to the "approved purchase list" for the year and a couple months later we'd scraped up the money. He estimates his round count from new to be about 1,200. Since it's trigger is as good as the CZ's I figure it'll make a fine IDPA gun.
I've already run it through its first IDPA match. I was pleased with the results.
Besides being a guncrank I am also a gearhead and a fisherman.
