Hey, new to the group here... great group, I've done alot of reading here and Thanks to everyone for their participation here, this is truely a celebration of our freedoms.

Bought my XD40 in August... I have maybe 1000-1200 rounds through it and I absolutly love this gun, hands down! Noticed that the finish on the barrel (the portion exposed when the slide is forward) is wearing pretty rough, I actually am noticing two areas on the this part of the barrel that has worn past finish and into the metal. I've already spoke to Springfield, they are gonna take care of me.. anyone notice this kind of wear that goes past the finish and into metal? My instict tells me that this is just slightly out of spec but I am afraid of my gun having to be passed back and forth between between myself and springfield, I'm hoping they diagnose this the first time... so if you can tell me anything in regards to:

#1 have you noticed this kind of wear and is it normal and

#2 anyone have good or bad stories to share with SA customer service and warranty dept? :?: [/img]

I am interested in taking off the "bluing" from my barrel and polishing it up. I own a Dremel and lots of goodie attachments. I'd like to polish the barrel into a nice shiny silver. How do I do this and more importantly, how do I do this without grinding off the serial # from the barrel?

BTW, my barrel is having the same issues as yours. I just tacked it up to general wear and tear. I've got a pair of railroad tracks along the top of the "block" part of the barrel (sorry, not familiar with all the gun part jive) and along the front of the barrel.

Sent in my XD-9 for warranty work on the extractor this summer. They replaced the extractor but the FTE was still there. Finaly had my local smith do it. It seems tuning and fitting extractors to a gun is not in their creed. Otherwise no major issues. BTW, my blued finish is doing just fine, have no idea why everyone complains so much in here about it.

Yeah mine does this too it's normal as others have said. I also have some wear on the breech part of the barrel. Hmm, I wonder if SA would give the whole thing an Armory Kote under warranty for that... :)
