I just purchased an XD9. I did so based on how it fit in my hand. To me this is one hell of a gun for the price. I looked at glocks, Sig's, and SW, but always went back to the springfield xd9. My question is, the manual says this gun has a ported barrel. I haven't taken it apart yet, but is this true for the 9mm? Won't this make the gun excessively loud? I would prefer not to have that in a 9mm. But i could be wrong? any advantages or disadvantages?

anything else you guys can tell me about my new gun. I won't get to shoot it until next weekend. Just looking to get as familiar as i can with this pistol

got it for $425 w/tax at a local gander mtn. Mine is not ported, but the manual said it was. I haven't really looked at it too much yet but plan to this weekend at the range. But from what i have noticed, this is a great gun for the price. Fits my hand like a glove. Just hope its accurate because that is the reason i bought it. My previous 9mm Interarms was way off. I cleaned it, tried different ammo, but it still shot about 12"to15" off target at 7 yards

Welcome aboard.
Practice, practice, practice...that is the best advice I have for you after a basic shooter safety course.

You sure it was the gun? Where did the rounds go? Up, down, sideways? I do not mean to offend, but you sound new to the sport and might be flinching. I just want to make sure you do not condemn a perfectly good gun and waste money getting another one that will do the same. Most guns should hit the target at that minimal range, unless seriously screwed up.

If you look at the manual you wil find that it has instructions for all the different XD models/calibers. It is easy to think you may have features that you do not. I can understand the confusion. I also applaud you for reading the manual. Many people would avoid a lot of aggravation if they only read the manual, but I guess they are just too knowledgeable or illiterate.. RTFM. LOL. :D

No, i am sure it's the gun. I have been shooting for a number of years, nothing serious like competition, but more for fun. the gun was a cheap model that i bought when i was 18 years old. Most gun dealers wouldn't even take it on trade just because they never even heard of the model i got. It was fun to learn with, but accuracy was never one of it's strong points. I have other guns that i shoot pretty well (.22 match pistols). etc...

OK. Did not know your level of experience. Hmm. Well then the XD should shoot fine for you. :)
